Having a bluegrass evening

Posted on: 27 October 2018 by Chunky

I haven't bought anything new by Ry Cooder for such a long time.  I'd seen this album, The Prodigal Son, mentioned quite a few times on this forum, so I thought I would give it a go.  First listen this evening and it's sounding wonderful.

Now Playing..........

Jakob Bro - Gefion

Jakob Bro - Gefion

Jakob Bro  (guitar), Thomas Morgan  (double bass) and Jon Christensen  (drums).

Streaming on NAS.......  continuing on with Jakob with this beautiful 2015 release. The opening track Gefion is simply fantastic, or as my wife just mentioned, "that is beautiful."  Love his interplay and spacing with his fellow musicians.......

She’s playing live in Dublin tomorrow, it’s my birthday tomorrow. One and one alas does not make me going to the gig tomorrow so I’ll have to make do with this excellent and excellent sounding compilation.

Miles Davis - Miles Smiles. This could well be his most creative acoustic album, with some really beautiful playing from Herbie Hancock in particular. Tracks of note (IMHO): Freedom Jazz Dance, Footprints, Gingerbread Boy.

Vinyl released 2015 - It has been over 20 years since the original release of FIRST TOUCH, Dominic Miller s first solo album. The Album has been remastered for this 20th Annivery Edition and comes in special packaging. FIRST TOUCH now contains three bonus tracks (Urban Waltz, Luberon, Carnaval). Miller has been working with Sting for years but refers his role in Sting s entourage as 'my day job' and after a busy day at the office, Dominic makes it his business to add to his own prestigious collection of solo albums. The first solo album came out in the mid 90s and features moodily beautiful nylon string melodies over atmospheric backdrops with the occasional fiery Latin influenced instrumental on the side. Great stuff 8)

Amazing recording and mastering .

You may like it or not, but it's really worth a listening.
...other recordings may sound flat after listening to that one.
