What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIV)

On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
I have already bought 4 CDs this evening, so I am going to refrain from sampling any more of Ewe's blues recommendations for the time being. Well maybe a quick listen to Luther 'Guitar Junior' Johnson. With a monika like that how can you resist.

I wanted to sample John Primer but 'All Original' is not available on Tidal, so I had a listen to 'Cold Blooded Blues Man'.
Blimey what a belter this is! Mr Primer is a great blues guitarist and singer but he also surrounds himself with superb musicians. Just picked both of these up from the big river.
As usual big thanks to Ewen!
John used to be Magic Slims second guitarist at one point.
Another recommendation
Just finished.........
Jakob Bro - Streams
Jakob Bro (guitar), Thomas Morgan (double bass), and Joey Baron (drums).
Streamed on NAS....... Love Jakob's compositions, the spacing in the music is appealing, this trio interaction and ability to support and improvise with one another is fantastic.
Now Playing......
Mark Knopfler - Privateering (CD 1 & 2)
Streaming on NAS........ Giving this another spin since it arrived the other day in the mail......
Delicate pace and moderate dynamics, exactly what a Nait 3 can handily handle, for a cold Saturday afternoon:
1970 - UK pressing...
Stereophonics - Scream Above the Sounds
In a patriotic mood after watching Wales batter the Scots. England next weekend, blimey!
Bob Dylan - Blood on the Tracks
released 1975
Vinyl [MFSL]
Dylan's greatest album!
Eric Clapton - 24 Nights
Santana -- Shango!
Chris Rea - New Light Through Old Windows ... a local hero in this neck of the woods
Alan
Listened to this through Bose noise cancelling headphones on the aeroplane (A brand) on the way back from Sri Lanka. Great voice!
Jeff Tweedy - Live at the Barbican, London, tonight - probably should post this in the what concert 2018 thread but it seems to be dominated by classical conversations, so I'll post here if that's okay?
Jeff put on a great live solo performance this evening covering loads of Wilco tracks - just him, his harmonica and an acoustic guitar or three. I think tonight's performance was the last of his tour.
Tremendous venue, super vibe and really enjoyed the show.
Peter
Now Playing........
Bob Dylan - Blood On The Tracks
Streaming on TIDAL........ Going with a mention from BISHOPLA and taking 'Blood On The Tracks' out for a spin. This is taking a trip back in time to the '70's and some mighty fine times...... 4 years in the Marine Corps, 4.5 years in College, 1st marriage and daughter born, 1st job on a career path, lots of parties, lots of beer, a lot of crap going on in the world (not much changed in that department) and Bob was there along for the ride......
Now Playing.........
Lyle Lovett - Joshua Judges Ruth
Streaming on NAS....... Love Lyle's music, also great to see in concert (although it has been quite a while since I have seen him perform in person), just love the 'Joshua Judges Ruth' album!
1950s Chicago Chess studios type blues. Worth it for "Build that wall" a Chuck Berry homage, alone. A rollicking album.
Uri Caine, like many other jazz players, has a fairly solid background in classical music. Unlike many jazz players, he has found a way to successfully work in the classical repertoire while using improvisation and love of a variety of musical styles he came by as a jazz player.
Eagles. The Long Run. On original vinyl from 1979. I remember receiving this as a gift Xmas of 1979. Many, many plays later the vinyl still plays splendidly.
Pete Townshend. Empty Glass. On original vinyl from 1980. A good album I haven't played in a long while.
Now Playing......
Luther Vandross - Songs
Streaming on NAS........ spending Saturday night listening to the sweet voice of Luther Vandross covering some all time favorite mellow love songs
Jethro Tull - Aqualung
Released 1971
Vinyl [MFSL]
I was 15 years old when I seen Jethro Tull at the Warehouse in New Orleans July 4th 1971. Aqualung had just been released in March of 71. The opening act was Yes and their album "The Yes Album" had just been released in February of 71. I also remember it was the first time I seen people rolling their own smokes.
Paul McCartney. Liverpool Sound Collage. On CD from 2000. An hour of rambling eclectic electronica. Think of it as a modern, extended version of 'Revolution 9'. Probably something only a McCartney completest would own, let alone listen to on the rare occasion - I'm guilty on both counts this evening.

What a gig that must have been!

The first pressing of this album was one of the worst in UK vinyl production. Warners knew that there was a problem but issued them anyway. Not sure how many copies I went through to get a decent one.

Maybe I should refrain from posting any more blues albums and save you a shed load of cash Nigel.
