Elvis Costello and The Attractions. Goodbye Cruel World. On original vinyl from 1984. I have a handful of Elvis' albums. I enjoy all the others but this one has a schmaltzy, commercial, 80's pop sound that can get long in the tooth. On the upside, it does have a very tight and fast SQ with (for vinyl) a notably black background.

Great album, for workout...

Bob Seger. Night  Moves. On original vinyl from 1976. One of those albums that epitomize the 'classic rock' sound of the mid to late 70s. This got numerous plays on 8-track while driving to high school.

Enjoying one of Elton John's best albums, in my view.  For most people I suspect it's Candle In The End that this album is mostly remembered for, a view probably re-invigorated after the death of Diana. That's a nice song but for me this album showed EJ's his versatility.  And what an opening number? Funeral for a friend (love lies bleeding) showed EJ could do prog rock like the best of them.

Mike,

I was intrigued by your comments on Funeral for a friend as I am not familiar with the album or that track.I went on YouTube and thoroughly enjoyed the opener as you say very prog. Will stream the album off YouTube on my tablet this week as I like a bit if Elton but don't own any

Out if interest are you picking up more compact discs as you now have that rather góod player at MDS towers  ?

We saw the excellent Chiaroscuro Quartet play Schubert’s Death and the Maiden last year, and now they have recorded it. I love their playing, which is really direct. It’s also good to see a young Quartet photographed other than if they were appearing in a Vogue shoot. Refreshing all round.

Hi Ian. Hope you enjoy Yellow Brick Road.  I don't know about buying any more since getting the CD555. I seem to have been buying a couple of CDs every week for quite some time now. Amazon makes it all too easy. 'Click' and it pops through the letter box a day or two later.  Happily most CDs are quite reasonably priced these days, and I quite often buy used which makes them even cheaper.  I must confess that I've got quite a few CDs awaiting their first play.

I bought this on LP when it was first released. It's a totally overblown "digital fireworks" performance and recording of Holst's Planets, right up there with the Telarc 1812. Definitely a "Marmite" production. I absolutely love it .

A lovely album and one I play quite often. I never seem to tire of it.

Pink Floyd. Wish You Were Here (1975). On CBS half-speed mastered vinyl from 1982. A very early analog-to-digital-to-analog production. Seems like an equation doomed for failure given its time. The result, however, is a true sonic gem!

I have that same version of WYWH, Randy, and I agree, it sounds stunning (the best WYWH vinyl I've ever heard). No idea why a cut from the early days of digital should sound so good, but it does!

It's a bit like those Japanese SHMCD LZ discs in the box set - every agrees they sound great, but nobody can figure out why, given that they seem to be taken from the early 90s Marino masters...

Ron Miles - Quiver

Image result for yellow submarine songtrack

The Beatles - Yellow Submarine Songtrack, from '99 the first Beatles material to receive a remix, and most of these tracks are a more enjoyable listen than some of the original lobsided stereo mixes we first knew.
