Chet Baker Quartet - When Sunny Gets Blue - SteepleChase SCS 1221 - Recorded in Copenhagen February 23rd 1985.
Chet Baker - Trumpet & Vocals
Butch Lacey - Piano
Jesper Lundgaard - Bass
Jukkis Uotila - Drums
Absolutely top class again from Chet who sounds slightly off his trolley singing Rodger's and Hart's Isn't it Romantic but plays absolutely beautifully on the rest of this fantastic release from SteepleChase. I have never heard this group of musicians before but they come together here in fantastic form. Playing right now is the exceptional song - Two in the Dew penned by the Piano player in this Quartet Butch Lacy.. Also
Long Ago and Far Away by Jerome Kern
Here's that Rainy Day by Van Heusen
When Sunny Gets Blue by M.Fisher
Isn't it Romantic by Rodger & Hart
You'd Be So Nice to Come Home To by Cole Porter
Not sure if this is available on any of the streaming sites but if it is give yourself a treat.
John Coltrane - My Favourite a Things at Newport.
Some stunning improvisation from Coltrane and Tyner in particular. It's as if they're giving everything they can think of, especially in the 23:30 version of Impressions. I was going to say they were driven hard by Elvin Jones on drums, but it was actually Roy Haynes on the '63 date.
This arrived last week - had a listen this afternoon
Along with &
on vinyl
makes a pretty good 'Desert Island Discs' ?
Paul Mccartney - Tug Of War, which is the only re-mix so far in the Archive Collection.
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Second Helping, 1980s vinyl.
After an overactive social life took me away from the systems for over a week (albeit with 2 storming gigs from Richard Thompson and Andy Fairweather Low leaving me not deprived of music), getting back in the swing with this masterpiece of Southern Rock. No difficult second album syndrome here, it kicks off with Sweet Home Alabama, as blasting a statement as rock has. Great song, great band, great singer.

Seen them live at the Liverpool Empire In 75 with the Sutherland Brothers & Quiver as support. The loudest gig I’ve been too.
Mekons - The curse of the Mekons , 1st press German vinyl.
Punk-folk-Country, this is an album of brooding songs, mourning the political era they lived in (1991). Slower tempos than some of their albums, these are excellent songs, anger and pain showing with their usual humour and eccentricity, often stately rhythms, played with heavy heat and interesting instrumental textures, it’s a brilliant work from a band who could have been huge given the breaks, although they’d probably have hated it.

The Free Story, thought I'd also post the cool cover of the limited edition Canadian vinyl release. We have this in our collection ,but unfortunately my wife acquired this before we met and she did not take the greatest care of her lps.Needless to say its not in the best shape

My only problem with the Free Story is that it didn't include Wishing Well or Oh I Wept.
Simply a brilliant album.

Two reasons for playing this one from Donald Fagen, it's a very fine album and the recording and overall SQ put the icing with a big cherry on top of the sonic cake.
A fine album (which i'm listening to now). Snowbound is just such a delightful track.
Brian Eno - Music For Airports
Reflective. With peppermint tea.
Now playing.......
Shai Maestro - The Dream Thief
Shai Maestro (piano), Jorge Roeder (double bass) and Ofri Nehemya (drums).
Streaming on TIDAL.......... enjoying this album while doing some heads down work, fits the bill perfectly!

This is one of my favorite Trane recordings. I have read that Trane was angry with Elvin for some transgression that kept him from performing that night. Roy Haynes uses his snare which was a much different sound from Elvin's Tom Tom drums.
Jimmy Buffett. Changes In Latitudes, Changes In Attitudes. On original vinyl from 1977. A great year for rock/pop album releases from the likes of Fleetwood Mac, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Steely Dan, Meat Loaf, Clapton, AC/DC, Bowie, Queen, Billy Joel, The Clash, and many others. Decades later, this album plays on par with those classics AFAIC.
Johnny Cash. Out Among The Stars. On vinyl from 2014. A spontaneous purchase when I heard the album playing in a record shop the week it was released. Absolutely no regrets.
