I have already bought 4 CDs this evening, so I am going to refrain from sampling any more of Ewe's blues recommendations for the time being. Well maybe a quick listen to Luther 'Guitar Junior' Johnson. With a monika like that how can you resist.

Maybe I should refrain from posting any more blues albums and save you a shed load of cash Nigel.

It’s hurting my wallet also!!!

Ha!!! Ha!!! wouldn't want to takje food out of your young daughters mouth now. I will give you a rest today as I have to restring a couple of my guitars.

Poèmes:  Irène Duval (violin)

Poulenc | Szymannowski | Chausson | Fauré | Ernst

To practice or to shovel snow?  I think I would need to have more determination than Irène Duval playing the stupendously difficult Schubert transcription of the Erlkönig by Ernst to go meet with my snow shovel now while it is -35°C outside.

Practicing it is.

I find some of Joan's albums difficult to appreciate as there's usually one or two stand out tracks and, well, some others. But this is superb end to end and is like the greatest hits album she should have released. The sound is superb too; in fact I ought to post it on the best live albums pages.

Bert's post reminded me to give this a spin (on the hard drive). Still a gorgeous album.

No, please continue. I will catch up and I wouldn't want you to deprive others of the hidden gems. I am really liking John Primer's stuff and I am sure there are other belters in there somewhere. Just need a bit more time to discover them.

Image result for all melody

Finally found a spare hour to listen to this in a week when my father-in-law was laid to rest and my mother was diagnosed with bowel cancer. A far more electronica approach than on previous releases. Wonderful production techniques from Nils new recording studio and I feel calmed and comforted by the listening experience.

Beautiful photography. Your own?

I feel for you especially having been through prostate cancer surgery last September with a stage 3 diagnosis from the MRI. Fortunately it was confined and fully removed. Being positive is very important, along with doing everything that improves health. Let the music work it’s own magic as well, as the mind controls the body. Thinking of you and your mother.

(2011)

A lovely album with Union Station who really know how to play a catchy tune and complement her so very well.

This '56 Boheme sounds so good it's easy to forget it's in mono. This is the original CD issue, from 1986, bought used for under a fiver.

Cheers

I'm slowly making my way through the rest of her back catalogue but so far they've not grabbed me as much as this album has. It took a few plays and then i found myself hooked. i've found this to be such a beautiful album to spend time listening to - Lyrically and musically it just hits the spot for me.

Aimee Mann - Mental Illness

Having not played this for a month or two I thought I'd remind myself of how good it is. And, yes, it most certainly is.

Aimee is still very much an underground artist, " lost in Space" though was a bit of a breakthrough commercially for her and can be positively recommended mon chez moi.

Glad to hear your cancer treatment worked out well for you. I also have prostate cancer but only stage 1 so under active surveilance for now but there will come a time when treatment will become inevitable.

I cannot claim credit for the photograph; direct from the Erased Tapes website.

Less pompous than the version for full orchestra, hence better digestible. Gilbert Kaplan was amongst the first conductors causing my respect, and his life time dedication for this one musical piece stays remarkable.

Only my second play of this, and an artist new to me. Initial favourable impression very much re-enforced.
