"Gustav Holst - The Planets

I saw this fine old classic getting played here a little while ago and made a not to give it a play. Karajan pulling out all the stops on this 1981 recording and giving it the full beans, good stuff."

The above post by Stevee S inspired me to dig out the only classical album I have on vinyl (I only have a small classical collection all on CD).  The Planets performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the conductor Sir Adrian Boult.

Sorry about posting the Teddy Thompson album twice - I thought the first one hadn't worked as I couldn't see it.

I’ve fallen for that in the past posting about him, I suspect that the mod filter intercepts his name because of the cuddly toy PSUs with that name.

I really enjoyed Yellow Brick Road when I did something of a random pick the other day so this evening I thought I'd give Capt Fantastic a run out.

MIdnight Skyracer - Fire - WAV CD rip

Another play for this young U.K. bluegrass band. 5 talented musicians, 3 vocalist, all three have lovely voices, and the musicianship is high quality. They can do ballads, but when they go for it their music has an immense drive, it’s more than foot-tapping, I feel a real urge to stand and dance.

Thanks SK - you've reminded me to give this album a play. 'Trouble' was my go to Ray Lamontagne album but this has become a bit of a favourite of late...

Ray Lamontagne - Till The Sun Turns Black

This is the first album I purchased from Ray's catalogue and it is my favorite, one of those albums that plays so well from the first track to the last, some really sweet tracks!

Gregson and Collister - A Change in the Weather, Original U.K. vinyl.

Quite a lot of talk about this duo in the last few pages, this 1989 offering is an album that I’ve loved for just short of 3 decades. If you’re new to them i’d Say start with Home and Away, their live masterpiece, but this album has a set  of cracking songs. All written by Clive Gregson, incisive lyrics, slow thoughtful numbers, fine rockers, Gregson’s a very fine guitarist, top class folk-rock musicians support them. Clive is a very good singer and leads on a few, Christine is a genuinely superb voice and interpreter, they harmonise well together. A couple of slower numbers where Chris leads on the vocals (Blessing in Disguise, How Weak I Am) nearly move me to manly tears by their beauty and power. Top-rank folkrock/Rock.

The title track (Return of the...) often makes it into my Desert Island list, I love the lyrics, and Parsons and Emmylou sing it so well.

This rather esoteric album is one of my ECM New Series favourites. Ambrose Field is a modern British composer, using electronics to make soundscapes, rather akin to some ambient material. He is joined by the tenor John Potter, one of the Hilliard Emsemble, who sings texts by the 15th century Flemish composer Guillaume Dufay. It may sound improbable, but it’s well worth a go. The recording is absolutely stunning and totally immersive. Simply brilliant. I wonder if others have heard it.

this works for me, is rather wonderful and hits my mood for today, many thanks HH

A long sit bit had some work to do so had it running in the background. Perhaps because of that, not so impressed as I thought I would be, while the last part of the concert picked up...

It's Sunday night, I've had a beer and I'm feeling introspective and mulling over a wasted but thoroughly brilliant misspent youth and that means re-aquainting my deck with one of at least 10 Mancunian 80's legends:
