On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
Now Playing.......
Ray LaMontagne - Gossip in the Grain
Streaming on NAS........... Continuing on with more from Ray, another fine album!
Joni Mitchell- Hejira, early ‘80s UK vinyl
My favourite Joni, jazz influenced rock, superb band with Larry Carlton on guitar and Jaco Pastorius on bass. For me, Joni is a true poet, ranking with Dylan, Heaney and Brodsky in my personal favourites of my lifetime. This album explores travel, relationships, balance of love and yourself, in a non-preachy way, and sounds beautiful. Joni’s voice is in my favourite phase, it’s deepened, but really enhances the lyrics, the whole record just drags me in.
Nice album, should have bought it earlier...
Should consider this for buying...
Last one before sleeping, nice loose album....
Richard Thompson - Across a Crowded Room, Original U.K. vinyl (1985)
Having played Gregson and Collister earlier, an RT album with them, a rocky one from Thomson, some of his best songs, driving rhythms, and Chris's backing vocals harmonise superbly with him on many songs. Great songs well sung, fine band, ad a great guitarist.
Ry Cooder - The Prodigal Son, perfect for a relaxed Sunday evening.
Tabby cat posted:Playing on Vinyl - Fabulous country rock from Gram Parsons from 1973
My turn to play this on 1980s reissue vinyl. Such a great album, great songs, Gram and Emmylou a perfect vocal pairing, and pretty much the Elvis band, you can’t go wrong with James Burton on lead guitar.
Beck. Morning Phase. On vinyl from 2014. It's been a while since I played this brilliantly trippy album. Great to relax to on a Sunday evening.
Pink Floyd. The Endless River. On CD from 2014. I haven't played this very often since I bought it upon its release, but each time I do I like it more. The music is relaxing and I'm over the lack of lyrics. Follows well after Beck's 'Morning Phase'.
Miklos Perenyi - Britten, Bach and Legeti
Solo cello music.
Kenny Wheeler - Kayak
Nice relaxing music from Kenny Wheeler.
Kenny Wheeler: trumpet and flugelhorn
John Rook: french horn
Stan Sulzmann: soprano and tenor saxophones, flute
Julian Argüelles: soprano and tenor saxophones
Dave Horler: trombone
Chris Pyne: trombone*
Dave Stewart: bass trombone and tuba
John Taylor: piano
John Horler: piano*
Chris Laurence: bass
Peter Erskine: drums
Rana’s Goldbergs sounding glorious this morning. This is one of my home brewed CDs, mastered from the hires download, and on my system it sounds better than the factory CD or the hires download itself.
cheers
EJ
Following the discussion which developed on the More Blood thread regarding which is better, I thought I'd give the opposition another spin. Mmm...despite some fine tunes I think it's still BOTT for me, closely followed by Desire.
Thea Gilmore - As If.
Radio Paradise in the background whilst looking for a new job!!
On CD:-
Cream - The Very Best of
On CD:-
Eric Clapton - There's One In Every Crowd
Playing on Compact Disc on Naxos - Very nice Vivaldi Flute Concerto's to get the working week going and lift the Monday morning blues
Playing on Cassette on TDK SA - X C60 - A masterpiece from The Byrds from 1966 - The Beatles had just brought out Revolver and The Byrds this psychedelic tinged beauty
John Scofield - Grace Under Pressure. I just played the track Bill Me, featuring Bill Frisell, which has real bass presence. I don't recall ever hearing it quite so clearly presented. I feared for my speaker cones - the piece has a seismic signature to rival Quadrilla!
Playing on Compact Disc - Pleasant enough third solo album by Stephen Stills from 1975
