I haven't listened to this is an loooooooog time!

Great album. I wore-out my first pressing, albeit in part because of what I was playing it one.

Having placed my pre-order a few weeks ago, this arrived today, on its release.

An album I've always loved. Frustratingly I've always felt vinyl well ahead of the CD versions.  However this remaster   is sounding lovely.  There are a variety of other discs in the set, including a DVD, which I shall explore in due course, but at the moment I'm just enjoying the album while browsing through the extensive notes in the big book that accompanies it.  Only downsides so far are (a) the book is far too big to be accommodated in my rack and (b) some numpty has printed the pages upside down as compared to the cover.

Anyway, the re-production quality of the album is for me justifying the price.

Just realised the cover doesn't actually say it but this is the 50th Anniversary version.  Also, I made an error in my earlier post: the video included is a Blu-ray with the sound in 96/24 resolution, not a DVD as I said.

Horace Silver - Song for my Father

I have a couple of copies of this and I think I chose to rip the RVG remastered version, which has very good sound. A cornerstone in hard bop in my view. The title track became the inspiration for Steely Dan's song Rikki Don't Lose That Number from their Pretzl Logic album.

Now Playing............

Jasper Somsen - Dreams, Thoughts & Poetry: The music of Enrico Pieranunzi

Jasper Somsen (souble bass), Pieter Bast (drums), Florian Zenker (guitar), Jeroen van Vliet (Piano, Electric Piano), and Bert Lochs (trumpet, f;ugelhorn),

Streaming on TIDAL......... going with a mention from JEROEN20 from earlier today and sounding mighty fine through the first couple of track!

On CD. By some measure, my favourite KJ album (with the possible exception of chunks of the Sun Bear Concerts set).

Now Playing.........

The Hilliard Ensemble - Music of Victoria and Palestrina: In Paradisum

David James  (countertenor), Rogers Covey-Crump  (tenor), John Potter  (tenor) and Gordon Jones  (baritone)

Streaming on TIDAL......... going with a mention from HAIM RONEN and taking the The Hilliard Ensemble out for a spin, smooth and relaxing on this Friday morning. We did not have the 'first snow' of the season but the cold damp air has moved into Seattle and the dark, cold season appears to be upon us...........   and the Hilliard Ensemble are certainly bringing a warmth to the room.

Just in from work, winding down with a nice glass of vino collapso with this on the TT and 32 years has done nothing to reduce what many people now regard as an 80's classic. I didn't like them at the time but hey - I've grown up and making up for lost time!

Hi Tony hope all is well with you mate,

Seeing your first pressing of LZ 3 brought a smile as it was the first LZ album I heard as a 8 year old it was my sisters copy and every Saturday my parents and I would visit her and her boyfriend in Kingston on Thames. They had a good 200 albums and I got into Floyd as they had a copy of Meddle. But the big one was LZ 3.OMG never heard anything like Immigrant Song.Loved the album and borrowed their first pressing and 46 years later still haven't returned it..ha ha !

Have another copy of it but the first pressing just seems louder, clearer.

Wishing you a Rockin' weekend....I am going to The Windsor Show Sunday.....Loads of Audiophile very well recorded anemic music to listen too I can imagine...it always is

Going to have an evening in with Chet Baker tonight starting with the very excellent self titled - Chet

featuring a truly stellar line up on Riverside records

Chet Baker, Herbie Mann, Pepper Adams, Bill Evans, Kenny Burrell, Paul Chambers, Connie Kay and Philly Joe Jones.

My copy not the one shown above is Fantasy reissue from 2013.

Next up is She Was Good to Me from 1974 on CTI arranged and conducted by Don Sebesky and featuring

Herbert Laws, Paul Desmond, Bob James, Ron Carter, Steve Gadd and Jack DeJohnette.

Not up with Chet's very best work some of it like the rendition of Autumn Leaves sounds disjointed but the title track She Was Good To Me with vocals by Chet is very, very beautiful as is his rendition of What'll I Do and has some beautiful orchestration and again a beautiful vocal from Chet.

The Touch of Your Lips was the very first Chet Baker record I owned on recommendation from the hifi magazine Stereophile who had it in a 10 must have records list.

Released in 1979 on the Danish label SteepleChase and featuring Doug Raney and the fantastic Niels-Henning Orsted Pederson who I thought was two people at first Niels and Orsted making this trio a quartet! Although to be fair Niels does play bass as if he is two people sometimes anyway Chet's vocal on the title track absolutely blew my socks off.

Interesting you mention that , Ian. I have two first pressings, the first issue with Peter Grant as executive producer and the second without. Must be psychological, but I can swear there’s a difference in sound with the first issue sounding slight more “forward” if it makes any sense. Great album.

Have  a great weekend as well and enjoy the Windsor Show.

Thank you, Dave. I can take credit for the music playing but not the photos as some are “borrowed’ from the tinternet. If you ever want to see my own covers, I will be more than happy to oblige.

Enjoy the music!
