What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIV)

On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
Disc or "Chapter" Two of this wonderful box set concentrates on BG's second album (and her first masterpiece), The Delta Sweete (1968). Most of the appended previously unreleased tracks are demos, just a close-miked BG and her parlour guitar - breathtaking and exquisite as well as intimate.
I think this may well be my release of the year...

I think I might just agree with you, Kev. It's a fabulous box set, I'm away to play the BBC sessions after having watched the Brazil Grand Prix Qualifying.
Jioni Mitchell - Blue, 1972 UK vinyl
I heard A Case of You being played at TomTom Audio earlier today (as I wandered past someone doing an audition), and felt the need to hear Blue when I got home. The quintessential confessional singer- songwriter album, great tracks about relationships and pain, Joni in perfect voice.
Bobbie Live at The BBC
It's been a great year for Bobbie Gentry fans with many great releases of old and previously unheard tracks and fine remastering applied to the new box-set, hopefully it might just get a few more people to appreciate this fine artist.
An album i bought on a whim after seeing a review in HFN back in 2008 (i'd never heard of her before) and what a find - blown away on the first play.
Beautiful songs, superlative recording and production. A lovely album.
Shelby Lynne - Just a little lovin'
Johannes Brahms (1833-1897): Sergey Khachatryan, violin | Lusine Khachatryan, piano
Sonata for Violin and Piano no 1 in G major, Op. 78
Sonata for Violin and Piano no 2 in A major, Op. 100
Sonata for Violin and Piano no 3 in D minor, Op. 108
Joni Mitchell - Court and Spark, 1980s Nice Price vinyl
How to follow Joni? More Joni The start of her exploration of jazz rhythms, lyrically sophisticated and self-revelatory as ever, some songs seem to be teetering on the edge of breakdown, others sheer fun and joy. For me she’s a major poet, and this album is wonderful.

No neighbours around, so time for a bit of late-night Bobbie. The Ode To Billie Joe disc from The Girl From Chickasaw County box.
I join the caravan now.
More of brilliant Bobbie and the bounteous box. This chapter's on the Local Gentry album, partially recorded at Abbey Road. Among the extras are the fantastic, country-rock swagger of "Conspiracy of Homer Jones" and a gorgeous, jazzy demo of "Hushabye Mountain". Swoon.

March of Ghosts
Fine Scandi' prog/art rock because I am bang in the mood for some Gazpacho before walking the pooch on an evening when its hosing it down and looking totally uninviting to do so...
Bob Dylan - Blood on the Tracks, vinyl
How to follow Joni take 2? The Big Z, the other singer-songwriter whom I rate as a genuinely top-rank poet. Album of great songs, superbly orchestrated and sung.
Based on frequent publishing tried this as well, great album indeed - on the magic list now...
Then I switched back to another great one of Kevin Eubanks...
Then I wanted to hear some Deep Purple..., one of my favorite songs by the way...
And then I started cooking, and enjoyed this great version...
CD 3. Les Vents Français - Winds & Piano Ludwig Thuille - Sextet in B flat for piano and wind quintet, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov - Quintet in B flat for flute, clarinet, bassoon, horn and piano.
Some classic Genesis for this evening. For me, one of the most memorable of opening lines.......Looking for someone.
1967 - UK first mono pressing...
Feeling like a madman laughing tonight...
One of those free CDs they give away with Mojo magazine. Now Paul Weller's music may be tedious beyond belief, but on the evidence of this, he has exquisite taste...
Rachel Grimes - Book of Leaves
Consoling music after a game of football on a wet afternoon that my team ought to have won.
Bob Dylan - More Blood More Tracks, vinyl
It’s fascinating listening to this after BotT, the original is legendary for good reason, and the fuller sound really makes the songs powerful. Yet these stripped down versions give an equal but different power to the songs. I’m pretty sure I’ll crack and buy the extended edition.
And now some more classic Genesis. Probably my favourite Genesis album, but there's so many excellent ones to chose from.
