On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
This is growing on me. In parts it reminds me of the first Tori album that I bought - Boys For Pele.
(1994)
Portishead - Dummy
This still grabs me the way it did when this their debut album first landed.
Aged s/h vinyl
Why? Time for a bit pf light headbanging. (When I saw them at Slough Community Centre they were supported by a little known, at the time, Brummie band called Judas Priest...)
steve
(1981)
I can't even begin to imagine when I last played this, spotted it in the virtual library while browsing, giving it a whirl.
Now Playing......
Bobo Stenson Trio - Contra la indecision
Bobo Stenson (piano), Anders Jormin (double bass), and Jon Fält (drums).
Streaming on TIDAL...... Continuing on with some of the recent ECM catalogue releases, sounding perfect for this Monday morning.
BBC Music cover disc, Paul Lewis playing Beethoven Les Adieux, Mendelssohn Lieder ohne Werte, a couple of Liszt pieces and Schubert Sonata D537, ripped to WAV.
Many years ago a friend got me a BBC music magazine subscription for Christmas, I got some excellent discs on the cover that year, and the following year when I renewed.. This is Paul Lewis turning in some very good performances, Les Adieux bringing out the storminess of the opening, some lyrical Mendelssohn playing. Excellent SQ as you’d expect from the Beeb, I sometimes wish I’d stuck with the mag for a few more years, it was a nice way to get good performances cheaply. The cover looks lovely glowing on the Nova screen, much richer colours than in the capture here.
Michael Burks Live recording from his 2009 tour and with a little tweaking it could have been released as a Live album. Maybe one day.
Fabulous version of Free's Fire and Water.

Good photo.
Michael Burks again this an official live recording from his 2011 tour. Another that could be released as a live album
Highly recommended
One of his better albums.
Superb performances of Dvorak's piano quartets, this is just as good as the Busch Trio's previous disc with the last trio's.
Cheers

Cool typo. 'Lieder ohne Werte' means 'Songs without values' while the correct 'Lieder ohne Worte' means 'Songs without words'.
Superb.

“satisfied” is a fantastic track. One of his very best, and a great team of musicians around him.
I've had 'Baby I'm a Fool' stuck in my head all day so this just had to played when i got home.
Such a gorgeous album.

I’d like to blame spellcheck, but I suspect sloppy typing has more,to do,with it.
Schubert Symphony No. 9, Johannes Wildner conducting Philharmonia Cassovia. WAV CD Rip.
An enjoyable performance, interesting well judged tempi, all the repeats observed leading to a long disc. The orchestra is competent rather than stellar, but overall well worth a listen, an interesting and pleasurable interpretation.
Now Playing.......
Quercus - Nightfall

Streaming on TIDAL...... Continuing on with mellow Monday and the beautiful voice of June Tabor accompanied by a couple of talented musicians, a beautiful album!

Melody Gardot - My One And Only Thrill
Gorgeous it most certainly is, James. Hope you've got the bonus disc of five of her songs from her performance in Paris in 2009.

Steve Martin and The Steep Canyon Rangers - Rare Bird Alert the funny man keeps things fairly straight apart from an hilarious live track thats called Atheists Don't Have No Songs
Sting - Nothing Like the Sun excellent sound quality.I find the sound quality on his early material and that of The Police on first pressing A &M cds to be outstanding

Stephen Kovacevich, Colin Davis, BBCSO, Grieg and Schumann piano concertos. CD WAV Rip.
Fantastic performances of both works by the then young Kovacevich, youthful drive allied to deep insight, Davis gets the orchestra to be the perfect match. Compelling music making.
