On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
Time to give the Nak a Saturday morning workout. I just love this tape:
Pete Yorn - "Arranging Time" (2016) a favorite artist, rocking songwriter
CD, 2016
A change of pace with some exciting rock n' roll from The Hold Steady with their album Boys and Girls in America.
In a Brazilian morning mood to off-set the white stuff outside:
Another disc from this 8-CD set. This time a gig from the Festival Hall in Melbourne on New Year's Eve 1974. What a great live band they were. No wonder they got to be so big.
Wings - Back To The Egg, the final band album before McCartney appeared to tire of the format.Seems to have undergone a critical re appreciation in later years.
Jason Palmer - Here today
Good modern jazz by Jason Palmer and his quintet.
- Jason Palmer - Trumpet
- Mark Turner - Sax
- Nir Felder - Guitar
- Edward Perez - Bass
- Kendrick Scott - Drums

I liked that album a lot way back in the day . . . just downloaded it myself. I've not listened to it in a few decades.
Portugal.The Man - "Woodstock" (2017)
I've missed the last week or 2 of this thread and don't know if this has been posted; I'd assume it has.
The "remix" is not as severe as Sgt. Peppers (which we like too) - this is not a ding on the Sgt. Pepper's remix. The sound from the hi-res download is fantastic.
The "Esher" rehearsal sessions are phenomenal and WELL worth hearing; it's a joy to hear the boys having so much fun together. My wife's comment was really interesting; the George and John songs were still very much works in progress at Esher, and especially John was cutting up quite a bit during the rehearsals, but Paul's songs were highly polished - he played Blackbird in a form totally ready to go on the album. "Paul was always the perfectionist" she said.
The White Album was one of the first Beatles lp's I bought, and it's always been a favorite.
David Hazeltine trio - Alice in Wonderland
David Hazeltine - piano; George Mraz - bass; Billy Drummond - drums
Same as Bart ,listening again to the sessions disc from The Beatles. The sound quality of the new remix that features on the Blu ray disc is phenomenal and by far the best digital version available.
Aaron Lee Tasjan - Silver Tears. A very good album from a couple of years ago. A blend of country, folk and blues.
Fruit Bats - "Absolute Loser" (2016) Fruit Bats is Eric D. Johnson, folk/pop/rock
Playing on Vinyl - Enjoying this album from 1966 by British pop legends The Hollies
On Vinyl:
Shearwater - "Jet Planes and 0xbow" (2016) Nick Lees has told everybody in the Music Room about these people, listen to him, and them. Americana, l guess.
Bill Evans - A simple matter of conviction
Listening to the February 1960 recording of the “Jupiter” symphony. In case you’re wondering, the Columbia Symphony Orchestra was really the Los Angeles Philharmonic for recordings done in LA, and the New York Philharmonic for recordings done in NYC. The conductor (Walter, Szell, Bernstein, Stravinsky, etc.) would then “hand pick” a few other musicians for the recordings. Another great budget box set from Sony.
Bear's Den - "Red Earth and Pouring Rain" (2016) just kinda fits today's playlist. There is a "sameness" to their sound, but I enjoy that sound. There you go.
Now Playing.........
Cowboy Junkies - Caution Horses
Margo Timmins (vocals), Michael Timmins (guitar), Kim Deschamps (lap steel guitar, pedal steal), Jaro Czerwinec (accordion), Alan Anton (bass) and Jeff Bird (fiddle, harmonica, mandolin).
Streaming on NAS........... kicking off the day with the Cowboy Junkies, fantastic vocals, lyrics and music. Margo has a beautiful voice and the group's third album features nine original pieces and one cover of a Neil Young song. This may be my favorite Cowboy Junkies album, love it!
Kaleo - A/B
I think it was Mike (MDS) who brought Kaleo to this fine place. This fell through the letterbox today, ripped and now marvelling at their relaxed, unpretentious but undeniable talent which shines through in this, their debut international release.
Genre? Icelandic folksy, bluesy rock. Bet you don't have any of those in your collection.
Thouroughly recommended.
Tidal. Mariah Carey - Caution
