Otis Redding- The Dock of the Bay -2017 reissue vinyl.

From the Rhino Definitive Studio Album Collection box-set, great SQ from the vinyl, and some of Otis’s greatest recordings, including the title track, which is regularly in my ever-varying desert island discs list. One of the greatest vocalists, who wrote some of the greatest songs (Respect and Dock of the Bay alone are a legacy only a select few can equal), backed by Booker T & the MGs. Cropper may well be my vote for the greatest master of the Tele ever, he can do anything technically if needed, but usually “just” provides subtle understated lines which perfectly enhance the lyric. I picked this boxset up for £50 today, it’s beautifully presented with cardboard replicas of the original sleeves, only slight surprise is that the inners aren’t poly-lined. But £7 an album for excellent pressings of Otis feels almost like I should go back and pay more.

That set was my Xmas pressie last year Eoin. The SQ, as you say, is brilliant. All mono as well!

"King & Queen" sounds particularly fine.

Silver Spoon

Just listening to this new single before pushing the button on the distro. Should be out 29th November. Sounds great in 24/96!

Not heard it yet, but the album cover is fantastic.

Edit: Just listening to the opening bars of the 1st track - I think he's listened to Gary Numan's latest with that beautiful deep gritty/brassy synth.  Edit 2: ..and maybe a bit of Christopher Franke's original Babylon 5 soundtrack.

I saw the wonderful John Marshall for the first time last night, playing with the re-energised Soft Machine. I first encountered John with Jack Bruce's solo albums. Harmony Row is my favourite. Fabulous guitar by Chris Spedding as well. It would've been great to see that trio.

Thin Lizzy - Black Rose a Rock legend - Original U.K. vinyl

Lizzy with Gary Moore as one of the leads, stunning rock with a Celtic tinge, some heartfelt numbers from a love song for Lynott’s daughter to songs about drink/drugs addiction, classic ripokcers, then as a finale the (in Gaelic) title track Róisín Dubh sets traditional tunes to a song about Irish legends with puns on famous Irish names.

If you like the Boz album above give this Mike Farris album a listen you might like it. You might need to give it a few listens as it can be a grower for some people.

Ex frontman from The Screamin Wheelie Cheetahs.

IMHO it is a really good album of the genre.
