What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIV)

On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
The last couple of posts are the next albums I will be listening to tonight.
Albert King - King of the Blues Guitar, the best of his work on Stax ,backed of course by house band Booker T & The MGs, and perhaps the greatest soul horn section, The Memphis Horns
Wow, and I've not got to Lionheart!
Someone mentions elsewhere these are akin to a black box upgrade and I entirely agree.
Vocals in particular are so much clearer with little intonations or warbles I've never appreciated before across the remastered catalogue.
The timbres of musical instruments are so much clearer, chords on piano now exhibit discrete notes, wow....her genius is even clearer.
Now Playing......................
Leonard Cohen - Old Ideas
Streaming on NAS.......... Taking in another album from Leonard on this fine cool sunny afternoon, and Leonard is sounding mighty cool and fits right into the day!

The final eponymous track is sending shivers down my spine.
I shudder to think how an ND 555 might present this delight.
Keb Mo - Keb Mo.
CD. Joss Stone - The Soul Sessions
Just finishing...........
Anouar Brasem Trio - Astrakan Cafe
Anouar Brahem (oud), Barbaros Erköse (clarinet) and Lassad Hosni (bendir, darbouka).
Streaming on NAS........... Closing out this Sunday night with the Anourar Brahem Trio. The Astrakan Cafe is one beautiful album and an album that will help me go off to dream land, fantastic album and very relaxing!
Not my favourite Roland but still very listenable.
During w orkout...
This 1956 Mono live recording of Pathetique by Mravinsky/Leningrad still gives me goosebumps.
Overall I think Praga did a good job remastering. The perspective is slightly laid back than the vinyl version but it preserves the colour of instruments well. More details coming through in the mid due to a lower noise floor. ( tho, I should listen to the vinyl with my current EKOS SE/Etna SL.) There is even a hint of atmospheric air around the notes. ( could be added reverve ) Improved instrument separation. Strings retains the forward balance but less congealed and whited out than vinyl version. Heart attack inducing intro of Allegro Vivo in the 1st movement is intact. Low end weight seems to be improved giving even more sinister aura. More intimate perspective on Waltz sequence and string textures are better heard on this mix. The tension on the strings, however, is more legato like losing a bit of peppery accents. Also slightly softened are transients on the march segment. Dynamics seem a little muted but in exchange, gaining instrument details and colours and overall scale. ( btw, this is a better balanced recording/mix than the accompanying Piano Concert recorded in Leningrad.)
Vinyl released 1981 - Just what the doctor ordered, fine album. ????
Playing on Compact Disc on Naxos - Some uplifting Vivaldi Oboe Concerto's to lift the Monday morning work blues
Bill Evans - Trio Live
It’s been said before that the ND555 portrays piano rather well. This album certainly reinforces that statement. In fact most Bill Evans albums I have on CD sound very good through the ND555.
Leonard Cohen
Various Positions - CD Rip
Edward
John Grant - Queen of Denmark. CD rip.
After a pretty full on weekend trying to meet a 10am deadline this morning (phew, relief), now just tidying the drawing board / office of all the project stuff. Pretty cathartic while chilling out with HoneyBear and Sigourney Weaver etc in the background. A cracking album. Memo - must get around to ordering the new Love is Magic album.
Playing on Compact Disc - Always great hearing these classics
On CD:-
Miles Davis - '58 Sessions
Still like this album a lot. One of the ones which I picked up as new band in Hong Kong...
The Police
Flexible Strategies - Tidal HiFi
A collection of "B-sides and rarities" , half way through and and will not be buying this, i am a huge Police fan but am not enjoying what i am hearing.
Edward
Blur - The Magic Whip. CD rip. A random pick from the rips, good to hear the Blur boys back on form.
