On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
CPE Bach, JS Bach and Goldberg Trio Sonatas for violin etc on vinyl
The vinyl is sounding mighty fine with the Rega Aura phonostage I am demoing. There is a real sparkle to their playing.
In fact it makes every record I have played sound amazing. There were always a few problem records such as John Coltrane’s Impressions which really makes sense now because everything is there rather than subdued. The Aria was just to polite sounding.

I can't remember when i last played some Moody Blues. I've always loved Question.
Great production. Sounding superb on my humble system.

Horslips - The Táin, 1978 UK vinyl reissue
Great Celtic rock, by the masters.
I don’t know where you’re based Eoin but if it’s in the land of the conquerors of the all blacks then this may interest you......

Sadly the wrong side of the sea, in Yorkshire, that looks fascinating. Thanks.
well this was a great anecdote infused evening in a wonderful setting. Although Jim Lockhart showed a huge knowledge of music history and musical forms as well as recording and mastering technology both he and Barry Devlin are very modest folks who seemed genuinely touched at the applause at the 3 songs from the album that we’re played. (Charolais, Dearg Doom and Time to Kill). They were well able to poke fun at themselves and their sartorial elegance.

Following A Night at the Opera I've been revisiting a few Queen albums this afternoon. I was late discovering Queen, despite being dragged reluctantly(!?!) to Hyde Park in 1976 for the free concert they put on. This was the first album I bought of theirs some time later which preceded Opera, but includes the magnificent Brighton Rock and Killer Queen.
Another album that I haven't played for ages. The effect of the backing singers getting closer with each rendition of the chorus in Walk on the Wild Side is one I always enjoy.
On CD:-
Alice Cooper - Billion Dollar Babies
Original vinyl
Why? Bit ov yer classic rock, innit?

Had a bit of a CD sort-out and came across this. Not heard it for ages but it's still an utterly compelling listen:

same here … in fact 'frozen' is one of the tracks I use as test track whenever I make any change to my system

I was taken there too!
The thing I remember most was my dad getting into a scrap with someone...Who I believe turned out to be Donovan.

Yes, Ken. I've often used Frozen for that purpose too. The bass is a good test of system's ability to cope.

A pairing that shouldn't work but most definitely does.

Mike, There are indeed some deep drums as well as plenty of other exciting sound effects throughout the sound spectrum. Good stereo sound test as well.

Radiohead - Hail to the Thief (CD). Not quite top tier Radiohead (Kid A or In Rainbows for me) but still a decent album.

I liked this a lot and then the 252 burn in took away the magic. Very pleased to say it is sounding heaps better now than ever before. Some really nice guitar accompaniments.
