On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
2002 - vinyl...

Thanks Tony, been meaning to check this guy out.
Hank Mobley - Another Workout
This is only my third play of this album, but it's fast becoming my favourite Mobley album. It's one of those Blue Note albums that wasn't released when it was recorded in 1961 owing to the greater popularity of other artists on the label. However, Mobley adapted and re-recorded some of the material from here which was then released on subsequent albums. That being so, I don't think the recordings here are in any way diminished. A very fine album.
Playing on Compact Disc - Great Dark Synth Pop from Basilden's Finest
With space-age rockabilly and EDM machine gun beats, this bizarre new album sees Muse retreat from the real world and into a 'Tron'-style pastiche of their own adolescence. You’ll be ashamed to tell anyone how much you love it
Playing on Cassette on TDK AR C90 - Jack White and a Acoustic guitar .....take this over Ed Sheeran anyday
JS Bach 3 Oboe Concertos - Heinz Holliger - vinyl
My wife used to play the oboe. She is very impressed with how good this Rega Aura phonostage is at delivering a sound close to the real instrument. All the technical aspects of this wonderful performance can be appreciated. The start of each note is critical with all music playback, classical or modern, and just so impressed and enjoying what I hear.

Primal Scream - More Light.
Filling in gaps in my Primal Scream library with this 2013 album which includes a bonus disc containing extra songs and a remix of the
opening track on the main album.
Funny, how albums I've overlooked in favour of the better known ones, sometimes turn out to be real gems ....... like this one!
On CD:-
Kate Bush - The Kick Inside
Playing through some of the Hank Mobley recordings I have today. After Another Workout came Soul Station. Now playing Peckin' Time. To be honest they're all good. Just really well played and well recorded hard bop.
Playing on Compact Disc - Very dry life observational songs from the fabulous Eels from 2001
Frank Zappa - Uncle Meat. Listening to the 2012 CD remaster. King Kong!!!
John Coltrane - Bahia
Recorded in 1958.
- Bass – Paul Chambers (3)
- Drums – Art Taylor (tracks: A1, A2), Jimmy Cobb (tracks: A3, B1, B2)
- Piano – Red Garland
- Tenor Saxophone – John Coltrane
- Trumpet – Wilbur Harden (tracks: A3, B1, B2)
Joan As Police Woman - The Deep Field
It's that time in the afternoon.
Playing on Compact Disc - Superb UK Hip Hop from The Streets from 2002
Ron Carter & Jim Hall - Live at Village West
Ron Carter - bass ; Jim Hall - guitar
JimDog posted:Hey Richard - I'm a Brummie and long time John Zorn fan. (Old Silhillian, and my mother lived in 42 Erdington Hall Rd in the war.)
Hi JimDog, west Londoner here, moved to Brum in ‘85. My mother-in-law was, coincidentally, based at the barracks in Rectory Road Sutton.
I have admired the Busch Quartet's Beethoven recordings since first being introduced to them about five years ago or so. They really seem to get to the heart of what Beethoven might have intended and they communicate such intensity of feeling. The recording quality is exceptional too for the age. Currently playing Op. 130. Sounding quite realistic through the ND555.
(2018)
Hybrid's latest album Light of The Fearless, being a long time fan of the band it has been totally remiss of me and my loss to have not caught up with this until now! Fingers crossed but so far it's sounding like Hybrid which is always good...

Now playing..........
Robert Plant - Carry Fire
Streaming on TIDAL............... kicking off this late start Tuesday with Robert , perhaps he can start a fire under my .... and get me moving this morning! He is sounding mighty sweet.....
This artist is still new to me so the three of her albums I've recently purchased are getting a fait bit of air time.
Some Steel Pulse this evening. This is a great compo..
The first album from Celtic supergroup Ímar. I helped at their local gig in Emsworth recently, and did rather well in selling their CDs. They are a lovely lot, and fantastic musicians.
A Night in San Francisco (1994). Have not listened to this in a long time. I think it is a good sounding live recording with some excellent guest artists.
John Coltrane & Friends - Sideman: Trane's Blue Note sessions
The John Coltrane anthology Sideman: Trane's Blue Note Sessions compiles cuts the influential saxophonist appeared on for other artists' various Blue Note albums. These are sides Coltrane recorded in 1956-1957.
