Apart from the one she did with Robert Plant.

She's far better on her own, without Bob holding her back.

Thanks, PCD. I haven't got that album so with your prompt have just ordered it.

Ah, you're a hard man, fatcat.

All this talk about Alison Krauss has caused me to play another of her albums.

@Fatcat, Is being 70 an excuse? I turned off progressive when it came out. I’m actually finding it quite musical now that I hear it properly. My wife would not agree.

What is it about Rush that you like?

Phil

Phil.

Probably not, my daughter's in her 20s and she and some of her friends are really into prog.

I don’t like all Rush’s albums, but really like 2112, Cares of Steel and Power Window. I don’t like all genesis albums but really like Trick of the tale.

Some good modern prog out there.

This is one of my fav prog tracks, but I feel it’s definitely send up.

Joni Mitchell - Ladies of the Canyon

I was born on the Isle of Wight two months before the famous festival in 1970, where Joni Mitchell played. I remember watching a concert film of this festival about 20 years ago and being astonished by the song "Woodstock", so I searched out the record. The song still stops me in my tracks, and I think the whole record is a masterpiece. This is one of the few records I have in 24/192.

Always shows up in the Qobuz deals, so had a more intense listen..., not for me...

The DVD is also excellent.

She has a very dry sense of humour, it's very amusing how she takes the p*ss out of the band.

Vulgar Boatmen - Opposite Sex

Great band that it never seemed to happen for. I've got three of their records.

Sadly missed.

I found these lyrics recently summing up my feelings in a Tapas bar playing some music I liked when in Santander the night before my ferry home at the end of my 5 week pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela

An extract from my blog

Ohh. This is just for me.
Kick off my shoes and relax my feet
Hit the kitchen grab a bite to eat
It's been one of those crazy weeks
And I gotta do something special for me
See, hit the salon get a mani and a pedi
Have a massage, get a sip and then I'm ready
Gotta take time out
And my real ladies know what I'm talking about
Sing. Oooooooh, baby baby
You don't know what I've been going through
Sing it again now. Oooooooh, baby baby
It's obvious to see exactly what I need
One of those days
When the sun is shining bright
And my life is going right
And the simple things are not wasted
One of those days
When you're cruising in your car
And you're out to see the stars
And it's warm outside and beautiful
Tonight, it's all about me
Just wanna set my body free
Never mind…

Aside from me not being Whitney Houston, some of the lyrics fit my frame of mind and my aspirations. I buy a glass of vino tinto de casa.....

It wasn’t Whitney Houston singing in the bar but a male singer in a group. Just one of those days seemed to be in the lyrics. Any thoughts from anyone.

Very briefly gave Nick Knowles album a try after hearing on the jungle programme that he’d recorded one. Quite bizarre.

Anyhoo, the reason I mention it is the Amazon reviews, which are far more entertaining than the subject of their wit.????

Rush - 2112 - vinyl

I have been undecided about Rush because it just sounded loud before. But it has some merits with better replay. Please debate.

Phil

Always sounded fine on lowfi equipment to me.

Rush and this precise album are two  of the main reasons why I have always been keen to upgrade. The quality of their playing and the production (except the 90s CDs on first issue) has always been second to none, but my old mono portable Philips cassette player just didn't do them justice! Now I can enjoy the full firepower of the terrific threesome. Tremendous album, great guys, awesome acoustics

Last night and tonight: Gun Gallus

a) Loki junior loves it

b) Great tracks

c) inadvertently became a test disk despite it's lowly recording quality (see separate thread on Torlyte extraction in the HFC).
