TV1 in NZ have been screening one Bond film every Saturday night. Initially wasn't going to watch as seen them all too many times. They've been cleaned up and the picture quality looks good, makes spotting flaws in the special effects easy. The early ones seem a bit dated although I did like this one, not least because it meant no moore Roger..

Inspired by the music of Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, three 1960s high-schoolers form a rock group in the New Jersey suburbs.

Fun to watch.

The story of a wannabe dancer in her mid-20s – in career and relationship stasis, whilst her best friends are moving on with their lives – Frances Ha is a warm, touching and deeply personal piece of work. Last month, the director was nice enough to sit down with What Culture and tell us all about it.

Very well made.

Really didn't expect much from this film tbh, with a title like that I thought you could really guess the story, how wrong I was, a film of 2 halves really but great fun, highly recommended if you fancy a horror film with a twist

The Hobbit ,Unexpected Journey BR, OK but wether we fell asleep or not some of the behind the scenes stuff we hadn't seen. Will have to watch again.

Overall not as good as LOTR when we first watched it, but maybe just getting used to PJ similar stories. As usual the star of the show is New Zealand, quite stunning scenery.

Elysium, on Sky. Pretty reasonable sci-fi good special effects (not CGI), OK story.

Hobson's Choice

Worth a regular re-visit. Wonderful film, seen it a number of times at the theatre but this is the best I have seen. Charles Laughton is superb.

A Foreign Field.

A BBC TV film broadcast just once on the afternoon of the Fiftieth Anniversary of the "D-Day" landings.

Now finally available on DVD. The principle parts are taken by Leo McKern, Alec Guinness and Loren Boccall.

A sweet and unsentimental study of the tragedy of Warfare, overcome with selfless nobility.

The DVD that came with the CD. A very large band. They're pretty good, though. Nothing much needs to be said about the songs. The guy is a legend.

I find the Marx Brothers profoundly unfunny.

A tribute to the late German choreographer, Pina Bausch, as her dancers perform her most famous creations.

Hi Haim,

I saw this last year (not in 3D), excellent film indeed. Even if you are not that into contemp dance this will still be interesting from a music, interview, visual perspective. Loved the scenes on the monorail in Wuppertal.

Jason,

We also saw it in a non 3D version. On top of the dancing I really liked the staging and the music that was used. Seems like Pina had collected dancers from all corners of the world and gave them a stage with plenty of room to grow and mature. A nice touch was showing some of the dancers looking at the camera silently, giving us a chance to study them uninterrupted while their words were played in the background.
