Interstellar.

How to sum this one up in a few words? - think Gravity meets Sunshine with a dash of Prometheus thrown in for good measure.  The science is a bit daft (read extremely flawed) but there's at least a bit of humanity here in the story and some great effects.  It's a reasonably entertaining few hours viewing but ultimately Gravity was a much better and far more credible space film that gripped from start to finish.  Despite high hopes, Interstellar failed to float my boat.

We have just re-watched all of G of T.

Went S3, S2, S1 and have just finished S4. I'm amazed at how much we missed first and in some cases second time around.

Unless our cruise ship has HBO I guess we are going to miss S5 episode1.

Watched this last night.  Always enjoy it. Apart from the genius of Peter Sellers, there several strong performances in this. No matter how many times I see it I always find some new aspect to saviour.  I hadn't spotted Darth Vader among the crew of the B52 before.

The problem is that Steve Carrell's character Michael Scott is so inept, so lacking in self-awareness that he is just obnoxious. At least David Brent was well-meaning, if a bit of an incompetent wally.

I enjoyed both the UK and US versions. But for different reasons. I think you're right that the US version took a little time to come out from under the shadows of David Brent. Strongs casts in both. I don't find Carrell's character too obnoxious, but I do see what you mean at times.

Fire In Babylon [DVD]

Watched on lap-top as Kuro at the menders.

.....a reminder that cricket is not always a gentle pastime. Michael Holding as a bowler was grace personified. Never have I seen someone bowl with such rhythm and ease in run-up, with such devastating results. Must have been truly scary to be facing.

Sobering social commentary on life in the 1970's, which I am too young to remember.

When the Windies ruled the world of test cricket.  Pity to see their cricket suffer these days.  Must say I think Michael Holding has retained his grace as a pundit, too.  I also enjoy listening to his views.

Started watching season three Winky, and Scott is becoming more sympathetic - although he's still not a boss I'd want to work under!

I remember watching Tony Grieg being interviewed by the beeb saying that we would make the Windies 'grovel'; the result was FAR from this, as I expected!

They were a great team, and left the rest of the world in their wake.

Bought and watched this today.  A little disjointed in parts, jumping about between mid-war and post war.  That aside it tells the story well and Cumberbatch portrays the quirky, seemingly tortured Turing very well.  Mark Strong makes an excellent head of MI6.  I enjoyed the movie and will watch it again.

A French prison drama, a story of a petty Algerian descent criminal rising in the inmates hierarchy. 155 minutes long.

Enjoyed this. A nice bit of brain out, enjoy the special effects film! Anyone with a half decent set of speakers and amp will also appreciate the sound during the many battle scenes. It would make a great demo disc for anyone with a good av set up.

An auction house owner who lives in seclusion amid a collection of female portraiture is hired by a woman who refuses to meet in person. But as his business relationship with his enigmatic client grows, so does his dormant libido.

Season 2 was better than Season 1, and thius is better still. A real grower, with the majority of episodes brilliantly written and beautifully acted. And it has Rashida Jones in it!

The Gift

Great cast. Some nice moments. I liked the central portrayal of a person with an ability which proves as much of a curse as a gift.

I thought the film was too predictable and I would have preferred a different, and more down to earth, resolution.

First time I've watched this.  Thoroughly enjoyable.  I'd go so far as to say it might be the best SF film I've seen since 2001 (the movie, not the year).  I've always found McConaughey irritating in every film I've seen him in to date but in this I even thought his performance was was pretty good.

Funny, I just watched the above and thought it had laugh out loud moments of awfulness amongst hours of tension free tedium.

The bit where the two of them are slugging it out on the ice planet...omg, why?

Yeah, wasn't the significant movie I was hoping for. Some good ideas here and there, and generally well made, but some cringe-worthy moments, for sure. Not close to Blade Runner, 2001 or Moon. Better than Oblivion or Prometheus, though.
