All the best from Fredrik
Funny, I just watched the above and thought it had laugh out loud moments of awfulness amongst hours of tension free tedium......

Yeah, wasn't the significant movie I was hoping for. ......
Have to say that I agree with this. At the end of the day any film which ignores causality enters the realm of fantasy, and this will always make me disconnect in a SciFi film.
I did enjoy the 'Things to Come' feel of humanity turning against science, and I think we see a lot of this in today's world. I thought some of the ideas presented were excellent; but a narrative that relies on someone in the future telling himself something in the past which results in him being in a position to tell himself this is never going to get my vote.

Anyone know if the new Hobbit blu-ray in the UK has Portuguese soundtrack or subtitles? Back from Rio soon, and would rather buy in UK than here, but need for my Brazilian girlfriend to be able to enjoy too!!

The bit where the two of them are slugging it out on the ice planet...omg, why?

Yeah, wasn't the significant movie I was hoping for. Some good ideas here and there, and generally well made, but some cringe-worthy moments, for sure. Not close to Blade Runner, 2001 or Moon. Better than Oblivion or Prometheus, though.
Partly agree, Winky, but I thought Prometheus was pretty good but Moon just didn't push my buttons in that once the main plot became clear, that was it.....bit of a one-trick-pony which didn't leave me with any questions to ponder.
Re Intersteller, I think Graeme's being a bit harsh about the scene where one of the space-suited guys tries to kill the other unsuspecting one. Alien environment, no weapons, low gravity, one perplexed participant just trying to defend himself - that clumsy, improvisation had an air of plausibility for me. I wouldn't expect a James Bond type 'kill'.
More broadly, I know the time stuff contains paradoxes and some of the family-related scene setting was a bit mushy. But the central premise: that there may be dimensions beyond the three we know, and our knowledge of black-holes, gravity and time might be far from complete - I thought the film had a fair stab at presenting an entertaining story using those issues.

Something which has been in stock for a year or so and finally decided to watch it.
Highly watchable and the story kept me involved although it left me unsatisfied. Perhaps over-dramatic in places and a constant air of implausibility in many of the exchanges (Marc Warren - what was he doing). Maybe I've been spoiled by the longer US series like The Wire.
Pioneer: A rather good Norwegian thriller set in the late '70s/ early '80s during the rush to get oil from the North Sea. Divers were being tested at greater depths than ever before, with sometimes disastrous consequences. Good tension, a few twists along the way and keeps you guessing until the end. I enjoyed this one.
The Equalizer plopped through the letterbox courtesy of Lovefilm. I couldn't actually remember what led me to select this one some months back and I was all ready for the usual 10 minutes, then eject routine that is becoming all too common these days. However, I was pleasantly surprised. Here was a film that wasn't just some poorly conceived rehash of an old idea. Denzel Washington did what he does best and the film had some cute little cues and clever cultural nods going on. Nice to see a film set in Boston and also good to see an old Jag XJ make a cameo too (albeit in an unexpected place) - Edward Woodward's car of choice in the TV series. A good start to what will inevitably lead to The Equalizer 2...
An enjoyable film which I give a play ever now and then. The opening scene where the camera gradually pans back, revealing the ever-greater scale and power of the two armies preparing to do battle is terrific.

...and is it even better sounding now that you've taken out a second mortgage for the new cables?

Well the SL cables will go into my main system Mr Underhill. My HT system has to make do with modest Audioquest Cinnamon HMDIs and QED speaker cable. Hope you're not tempting me to try the SL speaker cables in the HT system when they arrive

You'd be Mike's BFF!
Just finished Season 4 of this excellent US ensemble comedy:
A favourite movie of mine. Very stylish with a great sound-track.
Missed this on TV and only caught the very gritty S5. Another well-developed and entertaining cop drama IMV.
As you can see from previous posts, i've been hammering the Marvel & DC comic stuff! Loved reading the comics in the 80's and now seeing them take full advantage of current CGI tech is great to see.
Took in all 3 films yesterday. Think I got to bed about 3am this morning.
What did you think? Would you recommend any or all of them?

We watched this last night via Love Film. "Empire" magazine gave it a middling review so I thought it'd be worth a punt. I agree Richard, it was surprisingly entertaining. A load of old hokum of course but so what? Good fun.

Hi Richard. Thought the best of the bunch was Unbroken. Exodus stretches the imagination a fair bit and half way through The Battle of the Five Armies I started to feel bored as I had seen it all in other movies of the series even the battle scenes. Don't get me worng it is a good movie but personally I wouldn't put it down as the best of the series.

I'm on the 2nd in that series and it's felt a bit tired from the 1st one. It's all felt a bit LOTR light to me and too stretched out. Probably should have been 2 films rather than 3 but then the studio would be losing out on possible earnings.
