What DVD have you just watched?

All the best from Fredrik
Currently airing on HBO. Springsteen at home with an acoustic guitar discussing the songs that made up The River, his intents in writing them, how the album evolved over a long period into a double LP, and the numerous songs that did not make the album. Some live footage of The River Tour from 1980 is included. It's an hour long.
Watched last night. An enjoyable action movie.
If you like The Wall, you'll like this. In fact, I'd say it's essential! Superb picture and sound quality (Dolby Atmos), and the concert itself is brilliantly staged with some wonderful moments. The only negative note is that the concert is broken up by clips of Roger Waters visiting war graves and finally ending up at Anzio with his children to visit the place where his father was killed (in case you didn't know his father died in the war...).
Part of me wants to tell Rog to get over it FFS, but there is a rather touching quality to the interludes, and quite moving at times.
Recommended!

I watched this last night and Absolutely Loved It. If you like the Wall give it a go.

Not a DVD, but streaming from Amazon. Exceptionally good. Watched eight of the 10 episodes consecutively, it was that gripping.
I particularly enjoyed Rufus Sewell as the ruthless SS Obergruppenfuhrer Smith.
I've just watched two episodes on the trot & I agree Kevin, it's a great series! Well done Amazon.
In reply to Mike-B: sorry if I've offended you Mike. We've all lost loved ones in tragic circumstances but it's really not healthy to bang on about it in the obsessive way Mr Waters does. That said, I cannot agree with your view regarding Roger's voice on this BluRay. Sure, he's older but the change of tone that extra maturity brings I think enhances, rather than detracts, from the original recordings.

Hi Tony, not offended at all. I go visit my Dad's grave when I'm in Holland or nearby, I've done a lot of research & found stuff that few people know about wartime casualties & I've written it all up for my kids, that's about it, its a private matter.
Re Roger voice, I didn't make myself that clear, I don't like the voice with the audio only, its not "The" Wall to me & his voice helps make it so. However I do not feel the same way when watching the DVD, yes its the same soundtrack, but the video element changes something.

Enjoyed this. Much better than the predictable ex-Machina. The Machine is darker and creates genuine doubt and tension, even if the final outcome isn't exactly a surprise.

As a moderate fan of The Boss I found it 'good'. Worth watching but nothing I'd plan to view again. It's documentary style with Springsteen providing the bulk of the dialog, up-close and intimate. He plays acoustic guitar and harmonica throughout his recollections. His raw, gruff, aging voice is recorded without embellishment, yet still shows no lack of energy or musical passion in his delivery. He provides a nice first-person account of what The River meant to him as a song writer and how the songs were developed. An hour seemed a forthright amount of time to me, though I'm certain die-hard fans would have wanted more.
Ant-Man
First MCU film in a long while I didn't see at the cinema - which is a bit ironic given that this must be one of the best in the series. I'm looking forward to next year's Dr. Strange and Captain America - civil War, both of which promise to shake up the formula somewhat.

I really enjoyed this at the cinema, & the BluRay doesn't disappoint. As a full-on action movie it's the best I've ever seen; there's some good humour courtesy of Simon Pegg, a stunningly lovely but formidable heroine in Rebecca Ferguson, a truly sinister villain played by Sean Harris, some of the greatest car and motorbike chases ever, and Tom Cruise on top form. Highly recommended!
Hi Tony,
Thoroughly enjoyed this on the big screen, and I've bought the BR as a Christmas treat. I think Simon Pegg is excellent at adding a degree of humour without divesting tension, a difficult line to tread.

Glad you enjoyed it too Mr Underhill.

I hope you watched the Director's Cut. The standard movie is poorly edited & cuts out the bits that make it logical. Great film!

Glad you said that Tony. I only saw the film on the big screen where there were some wonderful scenes that added up to nothing, I have avoided the film since - I'll get hold of the Director's Cut.

Thanks!

My advice = don't waste time on this, your life is too precious!
Shame as this was made by a geek who used some well known locales, used in better films to much better effect. There is good talent on display in this movie, but poorly used by a dreadful story.
