All the best from Fredrik
Man From UNCLE
Enjoyed the series as a boy - 'Open Channel D', and recognised the campness and humour as I got older. I enjoyed this movie, it retained much of the humour and had a much lower violence quotient then Marvel/DC, which are at the same intellectual level.
Whiplash
Can you achieve greatness without pain and suffering? Well, in my case I would fail musically even with the pain and suffering, although there is no doubt I am better with practice there is that small matter of talent.
This is a good film with the Oscar winning stand out performance, but all the actors do a good job here.
One I will re-watch.

Me, too. Still got my yellow membership card somewhere.
I wouldn't have thought a Guy Richie make-over of MfU would work but I must give it a try one of these days.
Part 1 of the seventh season of the Greatest TV Drama Ever (TM), on Blu-ray. Looks gorgeous, sounds amazing, wonderfully written, superbly acted.
Hi MDS,
Some nice split screen nods to the series/movies , and as EJS noted above - good soundtrack, as commented on by my elder daughter during the film.

Hi M
Bought it today from HMV so will be watching it soon.

Quite good film about Admiral Yamamoto and not just Pearl Harbor but a bit more...
I like these type of movies, while the end sequences might have been a bit more extensive...
Now watching the DVD from the TV concert of Vladimir Horowitz - Quite Astonishing....
Hi Bert,
I have a CD of his encore pieces, gets a regular outing.
Does the DVD include an LPCM soundtrack?
Thx,
M
Mr Holmes on blu ray: beautifully shot and good character study and porttrayal of early dementia. Resonant but not remarkable.
Anyone here seen Freeheld? (It was advertised on the Mr Holmes blu-ray!)
'Cronos'
An early Del Toro film, simple and emotionally affecting story of an old junk shop proprietor who becomes an 'accidental' vampire. No big frights or effects, not needed!
I just watched the first season of Happy Days! I loved that show as a kid, it is so cute and free from carnage. Unless of course Fonzi jumps a shark.
Happy Days was fun. Micky Dolenz and Michael Nesmith of The Monkees auditioned for the role of Fonzie but were too tall. And Henry Winkler was poached to play Danny in Grease but turned the idea down, saying John Travolta would play the part better and "had them special eyes to woo the lady audience". He didn't like motorcycles so the Triumph had to be pushed or put on a platform and towed by a truck. It got sold recently for serious money.

Not revealing as the book, yet worth watching.
'The Hunger'
... as it's been a David Bowie day. This one makes me feel sad at the best of times.
'The Hateful Eight' - one of the worst, dullest films I've seen in quite a few years.
If I could persuade you of one thing to make your life in 2016 better - it would be to avoid this.
Some will love it. So - as usual - it's all a matter of taste.

Now I was quite keen to get to see that film.
....same here. I am not a Tarantino fan, the only film he has made that I actually like is Pulp Fiction, but in most there are elements that are worth the watch, but probably not a re-watch.

I will see it, I think it's just my kind of movie. The last one I saw was also great..... (Django Unchainned).
last night, and on Monday...
though the latter was on Amazon Prime.
(I did notice they really did get Rip Torn's "aged" look right ... he looks just like Agent Zed!)

I guess you didn't see that on DVD though?
Jersey Boys
This is a great stage musical, even if you are at best luke warm about Four Seasons music. This Clint Eastwood directed and produced movie failed to get real traction when released, and having watched the movie I think I can understand why. The stage musical uses the music to tell the story in a fashion that is not linear and glazes over time and detail. The movie is probably more accurate, but in achieving this the music takes far more of a back seat. The group's biography is not without interest, but it is a story that has been told better and more engagingly in other films. This is a very workmanlike movie, but I think it was holed beneath the waterline by not concentrating on the music.
