Lord Of Wars [Nick Cage]. A couple of days ago and still resonating in my mind. Very sad film. ATB From Fredrik

Ridiculous film. I found it quite amusing...

"It's All Gone." I heard about this film about twelve months ago and I have just managed to see it earlier. A Film about anyone connected with music going profoundly deaf is likely to be sad, but ther is a good deal of humour, if some of it rather black in the middle stages, here to stop this becoming maudlin.

Glad I saw it. Fredrik

departed, i thought is was a pretty good film, only had the reg 3 sd version, had a dts soundtrack but very little coming from the rears, to add to mikes comments not sure if it was a copy of internal affairs as i have not seen that.

Yes. I have a very large collection of samurai films (Criterion colections) and all most all recent good ones. The film When The Last Sword is Drawn is good too. I also like the film Taboo.

"Flag of our fathers" on a Region1 DVD. Not Clint's finest hour, imho. Rather fragmented and a bit dull. Maybe I was in the wrong mood.

Merci Pour Le Chocolat.
Isabelle Huppert in another psycho-screwy mumsy role.
The music was good though.

"Casino Royale". Very good indeed. Enjoyed it as much as on the big cinema screen! Daniel Craig makes the best Bond ver, pace Sean.

Over the weekend we had "The Guardian" and "Little Miss Sunshine" from Blockbuster. The first was an ok if slightly formulaic action pic (an antidote to Waterworld!), the latter is a genuinely whacky film. I was by turns irritated , amused and embarrassed. Enjoyed Alan Arkin's foul-mouthed grandpa turn though.

Apollo 13

Stunning!

Must have seen it 30 times or more, still moves me every time, and has you on the edge of the seat despite the fact you know the ending!

'nother vote for 'Casino Royale'. Well shot, well thought out, fairly true to the book despite the story being nearly 50 years old. Craig makes a surprisingly good Bond too.

Thunderball. Conery. In fact watching this after seeing Dr No, From Russia With Love, and Goldfinger, you realise that with the Casino Royale, the 007 production is back on the mark.

over the past while, that remain in memory

the departed - slick, good cast, yet left me wanting. As I said to my wife at the time - the "big scene" with Matt Damon and Leo DiCaprio wasn't exactly Pacino-and-De Niro in HEAT - pretty reasonable all the same. it must be hard to have done some of your best work early in your career (Goodfellas) and then try to better it. I don't think he's bettered Goodfellas, creditible result nonetheless. I'm not quite sure why Marky Mark got the nomination for his role - while it was very good - he's done better in other movies such as The Yards

the wrong man excellent lead from Josh Hartnett, who manages seriousness with a great straight-man comedic twist (watch the detective comedy with Harrison Ford); Lucy Liu again having fun; Bruce Willis (don't laugh - he's an assassin!)... and Ben Kingsley in another excellent portrayal of a bad man - yet with more control than I've seen before - excellent. Perhaps a little predictable toward the end (all a little 'usual suspects') - a very good movie that had me laughing with it's deft touch to black comedy. recommended.

Borat not as side-splittingly funny as I expected. Very clever. Has to be said though, Cohen is a master of all aspects of comedy - an unusual meld of pretty much the best of all comedic geniuses through the past century. you'll see it some time - don't make a special trip to the store.

I saw Borat the other day. I did not think it was nearly so side-splittingly funny as it was definately very clever. In fact, though on the surface the film is not at all subtle, the inteligence of it certainly was. It almost should be seen for its commentary on humanity...

ATB from fredrik [Not quite Englsih sensense of houmour Smiley]!

The Departed. On a region1 dvd. Not quite the masterpiece I was hoping for, but a well told story nonetheless, and Nicholson in absolutely top form. I thought Damon and diCaprio did well. The latter is definitely improving with age!

I found it at times hilarious, at time excruciatingly embarrassing, and at times profoundly sad.

It is interesting to note that the highly anti-semitic Borat and his Manager were speaking Hebrew - Cohan is Jewish of course.

I think that Cohen lacks any sympathy for his marks. He will play them and then watch as they hang themselves with the rope they have made, with his assistance.

An immensely brave and cruel man it seems to me.

Having seen it at the cinema I'm not sure I'll buy it on DVD. It lives on in the memory.

The meal towards the end was the highlight for me.

There is rather a lot of Polish spoken as well, which is strangely out of place, but no less funny than the other funny things. In some ways it was the most painful film I have ever seen - long to remain in the memory I am sure. Not to be revisited all that soon. Only Cohen could have got away with it...

Kindest regards from Fredrik

PS: Incidentally the swearing in Polish in the film of the "Battle Of Britain" is priceless once one undertsands just how rude it is!

Dylan Moran's Monster gig. Possibly the funniest man I've heard. I remember catching the show on TV a while back and waking my wife up laughing.
I get the impression he really means all the stuff he comes out with too.
