Hi Rotf,
I must admit that i forgot the theme tune to series 1, but like the "Prisoner" intro, "High Wire" is one of those tunes one does not tend to forget from series 2.
Thanks for the heads-up on Colony 3.

Well here goes:
The Lives of Others: as good as the plaudits say.
Pierrepoint: An excellent film about Albert Pierrepoint, the British hangman.
Thank You for Smoking: Pretty good film about the sleazy world of marketing.
Volver: One for the wife...Excellent Almodover chick-flick!
Apocolypto: Unusual amongst Mel Gibson films in a) not having Mel in it b) not being a vile waste of time
Pan's Labyrinth: Rather good, screwed up fairytale crossed with a war story. Not for kids...
La Vie En Rose: Excellent film about Edith Piaf. What a life! Superb performance from Marion Cotillard.
Small Faces: The ying for Trainspotting's yang and just as good.
City of God (Cidade de Deus): Flat out excellent film about gangland Rio. Feels like Pulp Fiction, but is a better film and has a funkier soundtrack.
Making their way up the 'in' pile: Iraq in Fragments, The Motorcycle Diaries, The Night of the Sunflowers. Historias Minimas and Fail SAFE

Last night "Man On Fire", yet another Denzel Wasington/Tony Scott effort. Aside from some exceptionally irritating camerawork/effects, and subtitles sometimes being added over dialogue in English, it was palatable enough for a wet Thursday evening.

Chris, me too! Still, being poorly has allowed some gratuitous viewing:
The Three & Four Musketeers as an hommage to the recent, sad passing of the screenwriter
The Sea Hawk - Errol at his best
Rio Grande - The Duke being the Duke
Zulu - 24th Regiment of Foot see off the Zulu hordes without a bass section, remarkable what a bit of spirited community singing can do for you.
Dog Soldiers - Zulu with werewolves and no singing
Obviously the grey cells are being rested at the moment

Based on supposedly true events. The Monocled Mutineer is the story of dashing rogue and master of disguise, Percy Toplis. written by Alan Bleadale (Boys from the Blackstuf, GBH), the BAFTA-winning series provoked intense political controversy on its broadcast in 1986 and, after an initial repeat has not been shown since on Britsh television.
Aspect Ratio 4:3
Main soundtrack English/Mono
2 x DVD's
Total feature length: 310 minutes approx
@ 2007 BBC Worldwide Ltd.
Priced at £15 it seems expensive considering it's not digitally remastered. But somehow this earthiness of the 'footage' lends some realism to the period drama, the storyline is very strong, special effects are very basic and few, the acting simply superb all round.
I think this will probably go well down in price give a year or two, and perhaps get the remastering treatment also. My copy is a presy for my dad so wouldn't wait for that, i had to watch if first because - long time no see... it's excellent albeit rather tragic.

of course it's essential to check out all CD and DVD presents at the very least to make sure they work ok before giving them - or at least that's my excuse!

Also; my dear old Dad has terrible arthritis in his hands so he can't get new dvd's out of the plastic wrappers... he also doesn't know how to work his dvd player yet, although he's only owned one for the past two years...
Give him time, bless him : )

Ryan,
I agree with you. Both great films but in different ways. The first is a classic suspense something lurking in the darkness waiting to leap out, The second (for me ) is more of an action film.
I first saw them in a double header at the NFT on the southbank a long time ago and like to view them the same way still.
Also agree with you about the 'The Empire Strikes Back'.

Shoot 'em Up: I'm sure Clive Owen got the lead role in this film based entirely on his part in Sin City. In fact take Sin City, mix it with some early Tarrantino, step it up a gear and you've got Shoot 'em Up.

Lost in Translation -- great soundtrack on the little Nait5i, terrific soundstage and wonderful ambiance. Sophia Coppola proves she's got the gene, with this one.

"Knocked Up"My 25 year old son brought it home. It was funny in patches. I think I need to watch it again when in better humour! Meanwhile we also watch the first two of the Indiana Jones trilogy.
