Classic John! I saw it in Cinerama in London when it was first released in about 1962. I still have the programme somewhere!

'Horse de Prix' or 'Priceless'. A very good and funny romantic comedy for people with intelligence, far from what Hollywood is doing. But there is rumors of an american remake (horror!). With pretty Audrey Tautou (well, she would need some more flesh on here bones).

Continuing the French theme:

- 'Moliere'. Yes, you guessed it, it's about the life of Moliere, but an invented story. A bit like Sheakespeare in Love, but better (there are no second rank Hollywood actors appearing here and there). Entertaining and very good with a, at her age, stunningly beautiful Laura Morante.

- 'Un coeur en hiver'. A low key triangle drama in the classic music violin world. Good, even if not that much happens. Emmanuelle Beart is rather pretty!

If you liked Serenity, I guess you already know Firefly?

Firefly was the series before the Serenity movie. It ran for rather short 14 episodes before it got cancelled... The fans made enough noise, so that Joss Whedon could make a cinematic movie afterwards to sum it up.

You can buy the complete Firefly series in a 4 DVD box.

happy watching

Le Cercle Rouge by JP Melville, starring the charismatic Alain Delon.
An absolute 60's classic, beautifully filmed, the best bank heist film I've ever seen.

I did like firefly. It was a shame it was cancelled after such a short run but i guess the execs didn't understand something that wasn't star trek !

Think I might move onto Babylon 5 next - it's been a long time since I watched any of them.

A couple of episodes from Series 1 of The West Wing. I picked up a box set of all seven seasons for £50 on Amazon at the weekend. Bargain!

Iron Man.

Moderate expectations but total pants.

Robert Downey Jr. as Jeff Goldblum - in a bad (is there any other?) way.

But you have to admit that Tom Morello's guitar work on the "flight theme" was pretty cool - if you're into that sort of thing....

Planning to buy "The Dark Night" soon so I watched Batman Begins on Bluray to get that done with first. Great movie. Very well shot and the acting is nice as well.

Regards...

Tunes of Glory. Saw this years ago on TV, late one night. Incredible performance from Alec Guinness - he personally considered it his finest performance - and Dennis Price, who so very nearly steals it but for Guiness' brilliance.

Last week I tracked down a copy on DVD and watched it this afternoon over a bottle of whisky with a good friend while outside the garden was variously torn to shreds by the wind and then drowned by monsoon rains...

I'd forgotten just what an astonishingly good film this is. A great screenplay given full justice by a flawless cast and leading actors, particularly Guiness and Price, playing at the top of their game. I won't give it away here. There's loads been written about this on various web-sites.

Reminds me to check out some more Price performances. I thought he was perfect in Kind Hearts and Coronets, probably his best-known role. Any recommendations?

Anyway, Tunes of Glory goes right to the top of my "greatest films ever" list. It really is that good.

This is good....Hilarious at times, quite explicitly told, but excellent scripts well acted. Worth a punt.

Enjoyed Californication on the TV makes a change for a show with "real" world scripts.

Saw Reservoir Dogs earlier.

The sickly violence is so gratuitous and somehow also sanitized in some way [you would be dead if you lost as much bloody as was on the floor round some of the characters still showing vital signs] that from being initially horrified, I began to think it had a grim almost Monty Python-easque sort comedy about it.

Is that a reasonable response or it serious cenematic work? Not a film I would ever want to see again in any case ...

I watched this 3 or 4 times before I could keep my eyes open for "Stuck In The Middle".

There is a school of thought that posits an underlying gay relationship between Mr White (Keitel) and Mr Orange (Roth). Personally, I don't think Tarantino had this intention, but watch the movie with this in mind and you can see where the idea comes from.

I think the movie worth a few viewings. It's not considered a classic for nothing.
