I made a terrible error & bought "Mamma Mia" on BluRay for SWMBO, who then decided I should watch it with her! Eek

Absolutely dreadful! Mercifully I fell asleep through a fair bit of it but sadly happened to wake up just when Pierce Brosnan "sings". Truly hideous!

File away under the "Strictly Girlie Film" category!

On a happier note we watched Wall-E last night - quite brilliant! A must-see in my book. It's funny, sad, touching. The imagination of those Pixar guys is staggering.

Recommended! Big Grin

Totally agree on Wall-E. Brilliant.

I love all the Pixar stuff. I can't wait until The Incredibles is released on Blu-ray.

"Blade Runner - The Final Cut" on Blu-ray.

This is perhaps my favourite movie of all time. But the first DVD transfer was woeful. Washed out. Low contrast and infested with dust and scratches from the film transfer. The next DVD version was much better. But this, on Blu-ray is at another level - just stunning. Highly recommended.

Just re-watching series 1 of Dexter, and have series 2 on NTSC import, which I missed during the summer. Series 3 is airing in the USA.

On first watching I found Dexter to be a series which had a plot that just could not be predicted, and not in a David Lynch, doesn't make any sense way, but just so inventive and unexpected.

An also waiting to get 'The Wire' (series 1-3) back from an actor I lent them to, so I can watch all five series through again. Glad to see a few mentions of that here, it really is as good as all the critics ravings. I loved Homicide before that, too, based on David Simon's book.

Batman: Dark Knight. Most enjoyable much more like the batman I imagined from the early comic books.

Dark Knight...I really enjoyed it, every bit as much as Iron Man. The screen ratio changes during the movie which is a bit odd and Bale puts on a rediculous Batman voice, but Ledger is fantastic as the Joker.

If you like Batman, checkout Gotham Knight, it's a cartoon but is not your typical cartoon.

Mamma Mia - I bought this for my wife on blu-ray and even offered to watch it...it wasn't nearly as bad as I expected and the production is great.

The Mist on Blu Ray. What absolute garbage.

Batman Begins and The Dark Knight on the other hand were amazing.

I've got Days of Glory to look forward to later.

Young brother got me "Band of Brothers" on BluRay for Christmas. About 40% through. Need bigger speakers and to remove at least the snare drum from the room. It's easily excited.

Via BBC iPlayer, but we do have a TV licience in this house:

Dances with Wolves.

It knocked me for six last time and the resonances of the film were all the more poignant this time ...

Unlikely trust and loyalty is a most wonderful human trait, sadly not nearly common enough, and rarely the end of the matter as the history of this shows us ...

Hi all!

Been a while since I posted on this thread. Been seeing a bit of movies lately and I'll put them all in one post.

The Dark Night:
Good one. Very good one! I'm not a fan of long movies as I tend to loose concentration after about an hour and fourty minutes and this movie extends a bit beyond. Bale is good, while Ledger is superb. Excellent cinematography, sound and plot.Highly recommended.

V for vandeta:
Didn't have high expectations for this one but it is certainly a very enjoyable movie! The lead character "V" is so well developed. Although the acting of the baddies leans towards the corny the plot and creativity of the script captures 100% of your attention and rewards you immensely. A movie that makes you think.

Top Gear the great adventures, Polar Special:
You can't but love top gear. The BBC guys are producing a car show of great substance. This documentary sheds light on the north pole and how challenging it is to use a car in that sort of enviornment.

The Visitor:
Now, I had read many great reviews about this one. Got it in Bluray format and was so excited to see it. Sadly I'm a bit disappointed. The production is sub-par overall. The topic that the movie addresses is very important, deep and humanly touching. However, the characters are not well developed and you fail to develop an emotional connection with them. Therefore, you don't care whether they get deported or not. Being an Arab myself, I found the portrayal of the Arabic way of life and internal family relations very accurate. The acting of the Arabs in the movie was unfortunately less convincing. At the end, you aknowlege that it isn't the best production but the movie has a deeper message that you do take with you and think about and that is a good thing.

Lastly, "Saw 4":
Gory and scary and similar to the previous ones. If it tickles your fancy then you should watch it. I enjoyed it.

That's all for now guys. Take care and regards!

Currently watching 'The Quiller Memorandum' - great film and have lined up 'The Cruel Sea' with Jack Hawkins for when the wife goes to bed!

Have also been much enjoying the original 'Survivors' series on DVD - much better than the remake!

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, I enjoyed it more than I thought. A silly romp, much the same as the others.
