well it's on DVD but on TV the Ken Burns series on National Parks, got my parents to watch they are 88, mom was fascinated, after an hour dad kept wanting to go to bed and asking when does this end, but another wolf chase or bear in a stream kept him entertained.

The Syrian Bride
Enjoyed this very much ... a very powerful movie about individual moments of emotion and compassion within a swirling backdrop of historical, political, religious, cultural and family issues.
Haim, thanks for making me aware of this film by posting it here.

Watched this again last night. Great film, great subject. I don't mind the inaccuracies. Kilmer and Morrison could be twins.

It is a small unknown film but it does a great job of telling the story in a simple and a true human manner without being lost by its large surroundings (of politics, history and religion). I am glad that you liked it.

They should have given the role to Michael Hutchence.

Saw this last night.
Race track, robbery caper from 1957. A Classic. With a cast of heavies you would believe.
[Opening voice over]
" At exactly 3:45 pm that Saturday afternoon in the last week of September, Marvin Unger was perhaps the only one among the 100,000 people at the track who felt no thrill at the running of the 5th race...."

Howard Zinn documentary, he was a key figure in 60s civil rights and antiwar movements by being a teacher and writer. I really hadn't heard that name so very educational
2nd we watched Wall-e, Pixar does the best animation and stories.

Return Of The Magnificent Seven ... for the first time in many years. Not a patch on the original (my favourite western) but still enjoyable.

Ratitoullie
Then Listened to Paul Simon's One Trick Pony.
I had a friend over and we enjoyed both, He seems to be the only friend who likes my system and comes over regularly. It's nice to share it, the second side of the album we just sat in silence listening to it, so wonderful like you're in the studio with great musicians. I'll have to get that movie to show him. It was the first time I'd seen the B52s I had no idea of the 80s invasion yet to show in LA.

Great movie, but not a "pick-me-up". Quite depressing.

Winky,
I heard that the book is exceptional as well. After four non-fictions I think that I am ready for it.

This isn't a DVD yet but saw The Damned United at a theater last night, Michael Sheen proved once again what a good actor he is. Would have been better if I knew more about soccer and knew the history but the drama and tension was amazing. Can't say I like his cocky character, but what he did was show you the value of his arrogance.
Worthwhile movie

Clever, satirical. A great watch.
Some of the best scenes ever put on the screen - this long before the days of CGI - everyone in these battle scenes are real people. Astonishing stuff.

Look, I know it's really a load of old hokum & the plots are ludicrously unlikely but oh boy is it addictive!
Got it on Saturday & we've watched a disc a night - that's four episodes of 45 minutes each on a disc (thankfully no adverts!)
Can't wait to see what happens tonight!

Australia, one of the Mrs' birthday presents. I did quite enjoy it, a bit slow to start, but OK.
What an enlightened policy regards the "stolen generation" of half caste aborigine/white children.
Also the Australian "Pearl Harbour" attack, was historical interesting.

Highly Recommended!

I hadn't seen this since it came out years ago, the friend I had over hadn't seen it, he loved it, great fun Frank Oz was a good director for this.

Then we watched all of the first season of this, great fun for a Sunday evening. Then I went to bed early pretty exhausted.
