Finally got to see Fever Pitch. It was fun recognising the types of people portrayed on film to the ones I know in "real" life.
Quite enjoyable, even if it was about the arse.

Just watched this on BluRay -

Although I loved the TV series, I never really got on with the movies, but this is just superb!

Not only a great action-packed story but wonderful PQ and audio to boot. Highly recommended!

The 3D was not really that effective, although several effects leapt into the room,it was the fact that most of the time it played in B&W with occasional glimpses of colour ,just like C4s 3D week! I just don't think the Specs work with TV or Projectors!because when I saw UP at the Cinema the 3D was amazing with no loss of colour, maybe if I could get hold of a pair of the Specs they use in the Cinema it would be different?

This with my four year old daughter - throughly recommend

Two more (exceptional films) especially if you have daughters (main characters - who are the heroes of the pieces - are female) :

You saw two different systems. The cinema system uses light polarisation to display the two images needed for 3D. The specs are polarised (each lens at 90 degrees to the other). For TV use this doesn't work as no (current) TVs can control the polarity of the light being thrown. TV 3D uses colour filtering, thus the washed-out colours. It would work best with mutually exclusive colour filters but the picture would be pure B&W. They actually use a compromise that allows some colour but stll differentiates the two images enough for a reasonable 3D effect.

Catching up on some stuff that was on when I was living in Oz. Thoroughly enjoyed this and now looking forward to the new series, now that I have caught up.

The Assassination of Richard Nixon, with Sean Penn. Got it from FoPP for 3 quid, turned it off after 30 minutes, dull & I've never liked Sean Penn. I only got it because I thought it looked like a decent thriller. Another one for the charity shop this weekend.

First disc of season one of Homicide - Life on the Street box set. Wonderful stuff, how is it the americans are so goood at making things like this ? What is fascinating is seeing the stars of later & todays series in minor roles and walk on parts. Looking forward to the rest of it.

I thought the first season was excellent, the last was good too, the ones in the middle didnt do anything for me.

Got this for the kids and we watched it last night. I enjoyed it for a bit although it is not something I would normally watch but after a while it got a bit tedious. Not sure how it ended as I wandered off to something else.

Currently watching one episode a day...
I watched this back in 1976 when it was first shown back then very late on BBC 2
It is still a utterly fantastic 12 hours of viewing.

5 x dvd box-set / Mono / 4:3 aspect.
(i think it's available in widescreen too)

Highly Recommended!

Deborah

Still one of the best things ever to have been shown on British television in my opinion.

I also remember John Hurt starred in a much less epic but nonetheless very good serialisation of 'Crime and Punishment' shortly after this was originally broadcast which mystifyingly as far as I'm aware has never been repeated by the BBC and seems to have sunk without trace. Would love to see that again.

I saw this in the theater but had to see it again after seeing Michael Sheen in 2 more movies. He is really great as is the whole cast. One character of film that is rarely mentioned is the landscape. Yes, not an actor but the beauty of the countryside, forest and gardens, interiors too tho they often get special attention in reviews.

I had two friends get married years ago and they honeymooned in Scotland because neither had traveled there. They came back and raved about the beauty of the landscape. Tho they laughed on and on about their inability to understand the accent of the locals.

Both John Hurt and Derek Jacobi are wonderful actors I took note of from I Claudius. Love to see them in films.

Wim Wender's Until The End of The World, intersting film, the first half was better than the second, but a monster soundtrack, not as good that for Natural Born Killers, but still very good, going to have to buy the CD.
