Watched a couple of episodes so far - enchanting marination from the 60s and not Gerry Anderson, but Roberta Leigh who wrote Torchy and other things and did work with Gerry.

Space Patrol features the voices of Dick Vosburgh, Ronnie Stevens, Libby Morris, Murray Kash and Ysanne Churchman. There are 39 half-hour episodes. The series follows the interplanetary police force in the year 2100, especially the crew of Galasphere 347 under the command of Captain Larry Dart. The crew includes Slim from Venus, Husky from Mars, Professor Heggarty and Colonel Raeburn and his Venusian secretary, Marla.

Ha!!

Thanks for that. A long time since I've given 'edge of darkness' any thought. It was fab when I was young.

Think I'll buy it now.

Cheers, Paul.

James Cameron's Avatar

I must confess I quite enjoyed this movie and am looking forward to watch it on my system (watched it on a small CRT TV on DVD). True, no stroy to tell but the beauty of the film is to be found in its deep atmosphere, amazing visuals and incredibly rich and detailled sounds. As a bonus, I really liked the score. You don't want to leave Pandora once you're down there...!

Gamma rays on. Yobba rays on

I bought this or something like it many years ago as a treat for myself and a reminder of my childhood. I watched a few episodes with my sons and was surprised at their reaction. Although used to present day technical standards they were able to see past the crude black and white early 60s production and got quite into it.

My dad used to watch Space Patrol before he went on nights on the 6 to 6 shift,he would sit on the edge of the chair by the door in the living room, when it finished he would say" Well that was rubbish" of course he would always tune in the following week!

Seabiscuit.

I love horses, and I knew one horse, very much like the main character in the film, and another victim of breaking down in a race, who fought off the infirmity, though she went on to be a brood mare rather than return to the race course.

In fact I could not watch the actual racing scenes. I had to shut my eyes for the sadness of it.

Maybe it is a bit of sentimental nonsense, but so what now and again.

I liked this very much, always a sucker for a love story and I have always loved this era. No idea if this is fact based.

Incredible suspense right up to the "double bar line."

2010: the year we make contact

followed by:

2001: a space odyssey

for the first time both of them on blu-ray.

I've watched both films before and I confess I prefer watching them in this order. 2010 is certainly a great SF movie but the astounding evocative force of 2001 had me nailed in my chair. I simply cannot imagine how the people felt when watching it back in '68 at the cinema. What a masterpiece this is, one that will last for the decades to come as one of the greatest classic movie of all time in my opinion.

When I saw 2001 in 1968, it was on a Cinemax screen which spanned the full field of vision,
and required three projectors. That's the way the film was shot.

So superior to IMAX, but so expensive.

It blew me away.

Le Grand Bleu, long version

Another classic, obviously. I watched it twice at the cinema when I was a kid, a third time on DVD a few years ago and on Blu-ray this afternoon. Great job, Monsieur Besson Smile

2001 was filmed in Super Panavision, not 3 strip Cinerama. It must have been quite an experience to see it on the big curved screen but I think Imax would beat it hands down.

I took my brother to see it in 1969. He was 8, I was 15. He told me a few years ago he hadn't understood any part of it whatsoever. I didn't tell him that neither had I.

Now that I've finished Arrested Development I'm catching up on this. Watching tv shows like this after the fact is nice! This show is pretty funny.

Not recommended. Found it boring with bad imagery of great places.

Last evening.

The Pianist.

Almost unwatchable at times due to the sadness it brings ...

but a great film, I am sure.

Will Smith

decent, too long for the good but rather simplistic story. good synergy between Will and his birth/actor son.

2001 is evidence that attention spans have shortened considerably over the past 40 years.

You say that like it's a bad thing.

No judgement intended. In fact, I'm probably wrong. I'll bet there were very many people way back then who were bored to tears by the movie. Some of the more geeky people of the time (like me) enjoyed it, and it is we who still discuss it. If it came out today, some would like it, but very many would not. Same as it ever was....
