You're right.
Cabernet is better....
As long as it's not the stuff they sell in Tesco's! Roll Eyes

It seemed a little too soon to be drinking my 2005 Gevrey Chambertin. Maybe Rod could advise?! I draw the line though at a styrofoam cup in a burger bar.

Just watched this box set of the first three films in the Shrek series. I shall watch the final chapter on blu-ray when I get home later in the week. They are rather funny!

I don't usually like American spoof horror films but I really enjoyed this one - deeply silly.

Standout moment - Sister Maria's "Zombie Kill of the Week"

I watched this recently on a flight to the US. Perhaps a 4" airline screen is not the best way to watch this film. I got very confused and bored Smile

I think I need to watch it at home to fully appreciate.

Two masterpieces in a row:

The Blue Lamp.

... and ...

High Noon.

There is simply nothing in the line that will achieve popular success today, which may say that tastes are more sophisticated today, or simpler, perhaps ...

Inception

I liked it a great deal, and will admit that my wife and I did pause several times to make sure we understood where it was.

The production is simply amazing

The bonus disc contains the soundtrack. "Dream is Collapsing" is absolutely stunning.

The Madness of King George.

and then:

A Night To Remember,

which is about the Titanic.

Both great films ...

I noted that it was available on a flight I recently took, but didn't watch it for the reasons you have articulated.

The Elephant Man.

The more amazing for being based on a real life. And unutterably sad.

I watched

Tora, Tora, Tora!

before the Elephant Man, so was already ready for the tragic aspect of human nature.

I saw the film only once before in Stockholm on its first release. My Norwegian aunt was then living there, as her husband was making great progress with the Coca Cola management hierarchy, and my grandmother made the immense drive from Oslo to Stockholm in what was then a new Audi A 40 ...

While there I filled the house with the Choral Symphony from Boehm or Kleiber. Not sure which, but it was a Telefunken/Decca German LP, much to the surprise of everyone. It was summer but very cold, compared to Norway in the days before ...

The HD transfer is AMAZING! The effects look even better in hi-def, usually old effects look worse. The production values on this show are phenomenal, it's amazing it got made at all. I'm pleasantly surprised to find the stories are relevant to the 21st century despite the dated title and I appreciate the ethical quandaries faced by the crew. This is my all time favorite sci-fi show.

Ben Hur - still good after all these years.
Inception - conceptually more interesting than The Matrix.
Reach for the Sky - still moving after all these years (and Murial Pavlov still lovely)
Seraphine (Thanks Haim)- well worth a watch.
The Road (thanks Gianluigi)ditto
