Ice Age 3 - Good fun. Like part 1 & 2, but I'm afraid I would not need a 4th part. There is no more story left, really.

Up - Probably the most depressing movie I watched these last few days. I know, it's supposed to be funny, and in parts it was, but the whole growing older, feeling like you dissapointed the love of your life thin is very depressing.
Even Russell is depressing in a way. After all, he is a chubby little kid desperately trying to win the affection of his father.
No, I love Pixar, but Up was not for me.

District 9 - The worst movie I watched these last few days. Started around midnight and almost fell asleep three times (which I wouldn't during a decent film). Boring, no real story. I think they thought that enough splatter would make the movie more entertaining, but it just wasn't. It was absolutely useless. And I usually like unnecessarily violent movies.

Slumdog Millionaire - Started it a few weeks back but had to abort. Re-watched now and thought it was pretty good. Really liked it.

The Day the Earth Stood Still - Hmmmmm. OK, I guess. The movie had its moments but all in all a very average movie.

Inglorious Basterds - Watched the first 20min and got so bored I decided to watch something else. Will have to finish it another time. But no time soon. Booooooring.

Die Hard 4.0 - Well, I am a Die Hard fan. And although I thought it would, it did not dissapoint. Sure, nothing for people who like realism, but if you like 1-3 I think you might enjoy 4 as well. I did anyway.

Dara O'Brian 'This Is the Show (Live)' (2010).
We saw the tour, and 90% of it is the same, but I thought he was the best stand up comedian I have seen since I saw Dave Allen back in the 80's, just brilliant, especially the bit about video games.

Comedy is very subjective, but if you like him on 'Mock the Week' then this is a real treat.

"Set in 1960 New York City, MAD MEN explores the glamorous and ego-driven "Golden Age" of advertising, where everyone is selling something and nothing is ever what it seems. And no one plays the game better than Don Draper (Golden Globe - winner Jon Hamm), Madison Avenue's biggest ad man - and ladies' man - in the business."

Arn - The Knight Templar. The most expensive Swedish film ever made - actually its a joint Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, German film (sort of Braveheart meets Kingdom of heaven. Quite good - enjoyable.

One small detail I appreciated was the fact that the lead actor can actually ride well.

Saw it last night on Bluray. Outstanding.

The American

I loved it. It won't be for everyone and takes a bit of patience because it moves slow in some spots. Highly recommended

Brilliant film by Ang Lee, with a fantastic cast and script.

Inception - great but a tad confusing after a few glasses of wine ! Need to watch again

Inglourious Basterds.

Excellent Blu-ray version.
very good soundtrack. This movie is a mix of classical war movie and Tarantino's genious originality.
Agree with Alex, the begining is quite slow to rise.

Recent Movies
-------------

Clash of the Titans:
Good action sequences.
Interesting to see how mythologies are twisted and reconstructed.
Poor leading actor.
Shame this was Pete Postlethwaite's last movie.

4/10

SALT:
I actually really enjoyed this!
As long as you treat this as fun it's a bit of a blast, in more ways than one.

8/10

Inception:
Good grist for a discussion over a pint or two.
To my mind not quiet up to The Matrix, but still a good film.

7/10

Toy Story 3:
Excellent.

9/10

How to Train a Dragon:
Pixar lite.
OK+

6/10

The Girl with a Dragon Tattoo:
Really enjoyed this.
Good action. Visceral.

9/10

The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (cinema):
For me the best of the new movies.
Apted nailed the relationships between the Pevansies and Eustace, and Eustace and the Narnian characters.
Plays with the plot of the book, but in ways that worked for a movie.

7/10

Repo Men:
Bought on the basis of actors I like, esp. Whittikar.
Film is graphic and just plain BAD.

1/10

Legion:
Good cast pretty much wasted.

4/10

Tell No One

I was bought this for my birthday, and have only got round to watching it tonight.

This is a really good movie.

The script gives you enough information to figure out what is going on, but the tension and twists keep you involved so that you don't have time to simply cogitate.

As an extra you get to see Kristin Scott Thomas displaying her linguistic talents; oh, and arguing with her wife.

Invictus

I really WANTED to like this film, but actually that was about all I came away feeling, a mild liking.

Somehow it didn't make me climb emotionally. It seemed to fall between a number of stools: It wasn't a sports film, although it had a high level of rugby, LOTS in sssllllloooooowww mo; It wasn't a political intrigue, although it did have moments of politics; It wasn't a close protection film, despite many moments with the body guards.

I felt it was most effective when concentrating on Mandela, when he wasn't the focus the human interest, for me, diluted markedly.

I would have loved to have given this a full thumbs up, but having seen it once I won't be hurrying for second helpings.

Outlander

I enjoyed this sci-fi hokem, made with real heart.

The story is straight forward, and follows the natural rhythms that make it predictable. But you do empathise with the characters, and so I enjoyed the ride.
