Something i didn't have time [or patience] to watch the first time around on the telly...

This 8 part series set on 2 DVD's are a poor transfer quality on 3:4 aspect. So no high-def here : (

The slow moving story, set in the 70's is of an era before mobile phones, blackberries, lap-tops etc

Although they do have a mole, cute little furry thing?

(...only got to Part 4 so i haven't seen the mole yet)

I think this is a case of; if you know what's going on you'll probably like it a lot. But in the secretive world of spying it's not easy to know for sure what's going on, and i'm finding this just watching it, ( and falling asleep in the armchair doesn't help).

The poor image and soundtrack quality doesn't help either, unless it's supposed to add murkiness to the murky underworld of murky agents.... which it don't, it's just a poor picture quality, so soiled and earthy it's probably where the mole is hiding…

But heck, it's only £5.49 on Amazon so maybe worth the intrigue.

Hopefully someone else on the forum will buy it and let me what's going on? : )

The Incredibles on Bluray

New Blu-ray disc. Stunning upgrade from the DVD version. Especially the soundtrack. One of my favourite movies.

Same here. Loved the way they channeled John Barry for the soundtrack.

Format: PAL

Language: French (with English Sub-titles)

DVD Release 2007 (Very Good image transfer quality)

Run Time: 92 minutes

After being totally impressed on hearing the soundtrack on CD, i purchased the film too...

The film is black and white and nicely atmospheric for it, unlikely twist to the plot but this doesn't hold back any sense of enjoyment.

Watched it last night and again tonight : )

Micmacs  - from the same team that brought you Amelie. Clever and creative with a hilarious and inventive ending. Not as charming as Amelie perhaps but well worth a watch.

Battle of Los Angeles - Total dross. Worst film I've seen in years.

Pirate Radio - bunch of adolescents on a ship. Not clever. Disappointing.

Everlasting Moments (I often watch films recommended by Haim who has excellent taste imo - apart from Pirate radio) - well worth the effort. Excellent film.

SWMBO Followed Rory all over Ireland when she was younger!

I've been in the mood for lighter fare lately, probably as compensation for my choice of music. Within its genre, this is an enjoyable film.

A pleasant surprise. The well acted film is more about family than boxing.

The Wicker Man (1973)

Starring:

Edward Woodward

Brit Ekland

Diane Cilento

Ingrid Pitt

Christopher Lee

Directed by Robin Hardy

3 disc collector's edition

disc1: Original Theatrical Release / Theatrical Trailer

disc2: Director's Cut / Feature length commentoary / Christopher Lee interview (25 mins) + documentaries.

disc3: Original soundtrack cd

The included cd soundtrack is a total rubbish recording, it can also make this dvd set version far more expensive to purchase compared to the 2 disc dvd only version which is the one i would recommend, both original theatrical release and the director's cut are worth having, the director's cut being better and longer.

There is a original soundtrack available for this on cd with far better mastering than this included horror-nasty version.

Note: No women were harmed by drunken wife beaters in the making of this film.

Just watched disc 1, which is a change for me.

An excellent film for May 1st : )

Thanks Haim, Just watched Get Low - another gem I would not have found if not for you posting on this thread. Get Low has a dream cast and yet remains a very low budget movie but nonetheless delivers quality all round.

Having seen The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, we watched both of these the other day. Very close to the books and the characters are how we imagined them when reading the books. Very well acted and IMO best watched with subtitles. The picture's very grainy which I guess is intentional.

Highly recommended.

We enjoyed this film immensely. It lives up to its much-hyped image and, like all the best films, it doesn't last long enough!

An injustice that Geoffrey Rush didn't win an Oscar for best supporting actor.

Personally, I did not enjoy the film. Got tired real fast of Natalie Portman's mopey expressions and all her close-up scenes. Even the dancing was not very impressive.

In my view, Michelle Williams acting is far superior to Natalie Portman's in Black Swan though it is Portman who was awarded the Oscar.

A Very Long Engagement

(2 disc DVD version)

Aspect Ratio: 2.40 widescreen / colour - (sepia style)

Run Time: 127 minutes

Languages: French or German

Subtitles: English - (and lots more)

With many WWI death scenes too realistically graphic to be entertaining, the romance plot is far more enjoyable to follow although being more than slightly improbable for the period.

An interesting and excellent film however, presently an excellent purchase for a couple of quid.

It’s spoken languages are French or German, the English subtitles are clear but need to be read very quickly.
