All the best from Fredrik
Yesterday,A few from this.
I had to check they were ok before i give them to my daughter for Christmas.
Forgot how funny they were.
Now looking forward to the new Christmas Ab Fab Special.
Love and Other Drugs
Ok, I admit it, I enjoy romantic comedies. This sat waiting to be watched for a couple of weeks, not helped by my eldest's, 'That is supposed to be crap!', but last night I sat down and watched it; as did both my daughters, and we all thoroughly enjoyed it, although my youngest got a bit embarrassed by the plethora of sex scenes.
I would not describe this as a romantic comedy, there are funny moments throughout, but these arise from the dramatic circumstances; this is not a light & frothy frolic. In fact the film centers on a tragic illness, and the woman's attempt to cauterise her emotional self; so the sex scenes are far from gratuitous.
Worth a watch.

David Lean's film of Charles Dickens' Oliver Twist.
Old fashioned camera techniques and primitive sound track do nothing to dampen my enjoyment of this great adaptation - IMO of course. One that can be enjoyed time after time ...
ATB from George
Based on a trues story about a woman who leaves behind a safe suburban family life and goes on a world spanning voyage of self discovery......sounds terribly formulaic ??
But it isn't !!
Julia gets her acting chops out again after the long wait since Erin Brokovich and somehow she puts across a sympathetic portrayal of a restless soul.
Quiet but enjoyable.
Geoff
Geoff,
Got to say that when I saw the reviews I thought, yuk!
I'll put it on my LoveFilm list and give it a go.
George,
Lean is just brilliant.

Hugely entertaining sci-fi monkey movie.
Harry Potter....not high intellect but we all enjoyed.
Great movie.
Well film on Sky anytime, the latest Planet of the Apes film , it progressively gets sillier and sillier.
Sky anytime . Gullivers Travels and Paul, both silly but kind of enjoyable, worth it for a diversion.
This science fiction takes you into the zone, a mysterious guarded realm containing a mystical room in which occupant's secret dreams come through. Stalker, a man able to lead others to this holy grail, escorts a writer and a scientist through this foreboding territory and confronts several unexpected challenges along the way. Based on the Russian sci-fi novel Roadside Picnic.
Stunning cinematography and great acting. Highly recommended.

A film about sacrifice and redemption from the director of The House of Flying Daggers
No matter what wars or disasters happen in history, what surrounds these times is life, love, salvation and humanity. I hope those things are felt in this story. The human side of the story was more important to me than the background of the Nanjing massacre. Human nature, love and sacrifice -- these are the things that are truly eternal. For me, the event is the historical background of the film. But the enduring question of the story is how the human spirit is expressed in wartime.
Can't believe it's over 11 years since we watched this at the cinema. Where that went i don't know.
Great film though.
A tale from the Lebanese civil war. Based on the play 'Schorched' which I saw first.
You're not much into the light entertainment category, are you Haim? You watch some pretty serious stuff.

Winky, I am willing to watch anything that looks interesting, regardless of topic or mood.

Ah yes, that's my point. What interests you doesn't often seem to involve cars that turn into robots, or flying superheros in spandex. Just sayin's all.
Something a bit lighter for you Winky -
Brendan Gleeson's superb as a foul-mouthed (I reckon he must hold some sort of record for the number of times he says the "F" word in a film) Irish cop who's definitely non-PC. He comes up against a nasty drugs gang & has to work with Don Cheadle from the FBI to track the villains down.
Full of quotable lines and very black humour, Gleeson & Cheadle are a great double-act and the whole thing races along with never a dull moment. My only criticism - the irish accents are a bit impenetrable and mumbled but other than that it's a super laugh.
Recommended!
