I enjoyed this in part for the various acting skills, in part for the look and feel and in part because like most I suspect 'have read the book' as they say

Hehehe I love my popcorn junk but enjoy some more intellectual challenge now and then Haven't read the book but a bit of careful attention and the story is easy enough to follow. EXCELLENT pacing, by the way, a really outstanding feature of this film.

Have you seen the BBC series with Alec Guiness?

Well worth the time.

Re-watched it a few months ago, I had forgotten how drab things were in the 70's!

....and I'm right with you with the pop-corn, as long as long as it resonates emotionally, and doesn't have a plot that can be blown away by a puff of wind - of either kind!

Yup, that about sums up what makes a good film in my book as well, popcorn or otherwise - ever since my dad took me to Return of the Jedi. Spoiled me for life, as it turns out.

The Awakening

The film follows a true unbeliever who has a passion for unmasking ghostley fraudsters, although she doesn't drive a van with 'The Mystery Machine' on the side - on occassion people do get perilously close to calling her 'pesky'.

This is actually a good old fashioned style of horror movie, and I enjoyed it.

It is atmospheric, with muted colours and typical camera use for this style of film. There is nothing new here, but it is delivered very professionally.

A well honed ghost yarn - ripping stuff!

Talking about popcorn movies just worked my way thru' this. Couldn't resist it.

Finally completed Season 3 of this great series that brought the Wars back in Star Wars Ep.I-II-III. By the end of season 3, this should no longer be considered juvenile fare although of course compared to Game of Thrones, it is simple stuff. Season finale introduces Chewbacca and the other wookies that will later feature in Ep.3. Bring on Season 4!

I agree guys the JP, BTTF and IJ series are excellent sit back and enjoy movies, I would add the Star Wars films to (at least IV-VI ).

Not a DVD but we watched Telstar (BBC2) the Joe Meek story(?), a very strange man if it is to be belived.

Amazing the number of artists that passed through his studios(and some through his hands!).

Sounds like a plan. I am sucker enough for films at home that I have a HD projector, a sub woofer for the bangs and roars and a good size screen so maybe I should charge admission

Back on track. Just watched:

Overall, a bit of a letdown. Now I have to say I like Ang Lee's Hulk, which they could have kept as a prequel but didn't. That one had Jennifer Connelly. Liv doesn't even come close, in terms of looks or as a believable scientist. But the real problem is that the background story doesn't work, the main story is too simple for its own good (let's chase the hulk), Banner's personality doesn't fit, his relationship with Betty completely unbelievable, the jokes don't work, the action is stale and the end to the climactic fight was.. ehh... did the budget run out before the sequence could be completed? And what was Iron Man doing there at the end when in the Avengers it's clear he was kept out of the initial plan to form that group?

Now, there are also some good points. The film is entertaining enough, there are some classic Hulk moments (some of them really shoehorned in), the sets and set pieces are good. Hurt as a more sinister General Ross was OK, Roth as manic as ever, and Ed Norton is very good as a somewhat naive, less brooding banner. I wish he had some better material to work with.

One for the completists, then. Which I am.

Cool film. Despite the focus on battling other suits again, it still felt fresh.

This concludes my Avengers prequel series, all in all very enjoyable with only the Incredible Hulk proving slightly subpar - at least now we know how/why Stark became involved with the avengers initiative.

Colorful effort by Fox to (slightly) break away from their Ice Age franchise. For a film that is as much about carnival in Rio as it is about birds, the music is pretty crap, and the overall film is not all that funny. Not bad, but I think I'll wait with showing this to the boys until they are a bit older.

Hi EJS,

Saw this at the Cinema, good film.

Been watching the ongoing cull of colleagues at work for the past two years; as you say, 'too close for comfort'.

Pfff... directed by the clown who did Charlie's Angels, there's absolutely nothing redeeming about this turd of a film. Don't do as I did and save yourself a time waster.
