Hi Karl,

No I haven't seen V for Vendetta, I have now put this on my LoveFilm list.

I suspect I have seen the Donat version of TCOMC, as I suspect this was a BBC Matinee in years gone by, but don't specifically remember it, I'll buy it.

WRT Hitch:

I think it is unbelievable that he never received an Oscar, and is perhaps a comment on its value!

North by North West is certainly the film of his that I have watched most, and is probably my favourite. I also do enjoy Rear Window.

Vertigo leaves me cold, despite the famous dolly out and zoom in! It is one of those films that I have watched a number of times, as I keep feeling the I ought to like it.

Hobson's Choice

Directed by David Lean

A great 'larger than life' performance by Charles Laughton is well supported by Brenda de Banzie and John Mills.  It's easy to see why it won the 'British Film Academy Award Best British Film'  in 1954.

A film I watch more than most I own.

As an insomniac, I often find myself watch DVDs at odd times in the night.

Between 2am and 6am today it was:

Tyrannosaur

Directed by Peter Considine (2011)

We picked this up with the intention of giving it as a present but decided to play it instead.

Although not sure what to expect, the opening dialogue from Joseph (Peter Mullan) immediately sets the feel for the whole film.  It’s a challenging and, at times, uncomfortable journey to a world hopefully not many of us experience.  Mullan and Olivia Colman in the leading roles are first class and let’s hope Considine can follow up his debut directorship with equally impressive work.

We’re keeping the DVD!

Hue and Cry

Directed by Charles Crichton (1947)

Enjoyable early Ealing comedy (or childrens thriller) filmed on location in a WW II damaged London.. I should imagine my father saw this when it first came out!

My wife and I have Just been working our way through the Misfits box set and I have to say it is one of the best TV shows I have seen in a very long time, very funny, great characters and really interesting stories.

Just finished series 3 so now we've got to wait for series 4 to be released on dvd in a couple of weeks, can't wait.

Highly Recommended

Charlie Wilson's War on Netflix. Very, very good indeed. Proof that even Hollywood cinema isn't all fluff. A character, dialogue and plot-driven drama. Remarkable and highly recommended. The most I've enjoyed Hanks in some time (perhaps his best ever?).

Just started watching - a classic piece of Hollywood sentiment.

Anything with the great Bill Powell in it is worth watching.

Getting ready for the Hobbit...

Currently watching Fellowship, on blu-ray. I've had this box for a number of years but never got around to watching it. Looks and sounds spectacular.

A truly great series George.  I'd watch 10 days of that over the Christmas tv tripe any day.  Not sure my kids would agree though!

Merry Christmas.

Same here. Also Expendables 2 last night - a film where you must leave your brain somewhere else. They must have had a major SFX/stunt budget, and catering sized cans of tomato ketchup. A bit too much gore-festy for me.
