What DVD have you just watched?

All the best from Fredrik
After watching a load of extras with Dark Knight Rises we just watched Batman Begins to remember all the early scene setters.
Awesome movie. But my wife just doesn't "get" Wes Anderson, unfortunately.
I am very fond of not-terribly-funny film spinoffs from 1970s UK sitcoms:
This one features some great British character actors and a bunch of people in their 20s playing fifth-formers...
I'm a little bit late to this one but my wife and I watched The Artist last night, not one I was really looking forward to in all honesty but it turned out to be one of the most enjoyable films I've seen in ages, far more fun than any B&W, silent and shot in 4:3 film has any right to be
Watching the rehersal at Shepperton on the bonus disc.
Just coz it's so funny innit
Just coz it's so funny innit
..and scarily close to the real thing.

I'm not generally a fan of cowboy films but this is the best of them IMO; it tops Unforgiven and has some excellent acting. Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday is superb and Kurt Russell wonderful too as Wyatt Earp. If you've not seen this film I can heartily recommend it. An example of a director getting exceptional performances out of actors who are generally regarded as pretty average -

Agree, awesome movie. In its genre, for me it's up there with Once upon a time in the West, Open Range and the new True Grit. Note that Kilmer, at the time, was in pretty high regard as a character actor. It all went south for him after Heat.
How is the BR picture quality?
Cheers,

Excellent EJ, as is the HD sound.
It's like a lurid dream

Got to say that I disagree with this comment Tony, although I DO think Tombstone is a bloody good film.
Would I say that Tombstone is the best of the genre? No.
If forced to pick just one western it would probably be The Searchers, but the others in consideration would include:
Shane;
Rio Bravo;
Shenendoah;
The Big Country;
The Good, the Bad & the Ugly;
The Outlaw Josey Wales;
The Magnificent Seven;
True Grit (John Wayne);
Unforgiven.
All of which I would rank in front of Tombstone - but not by a mile!

Sky+ offerings Alien and Cowboys a bit of daft fun, a slightly different take on human vs aliens. James Bond as a cowboy, I don't know. Silly but enjoyable.......
.........unlike Holmes and the Dark shadows, what a bunch of crap, managed 10 minutes, even Stephen Fry didn't managed to save this turkey.
Brain dis-engaged for a couple of hours. Usual ultra-violent stuff but at least on this ocassion you can hear JS speak, even though he's got a London accent and supposed to be a US ex-cop.
Not as bad as I'd feared although a very sllly plot. I don't follow why Hasbro were involved, as the film content doesn't play to any version of the game I've ever seen.
Cabin in the Woods
Joss Whedon, and so I was expecting more.
'tis OK.
Happy Listener,
I got Battleship amongst my Christmas Bunch, what i buy for guests to pick over the festive season.
I got the blue ray as it was: Cheap; and, a friend said it was OK ...hi Mike.
For me it JUST squeaked into the OK bracket. I'll never watch it again.
Loud and needs alcohol to be enjoyed methinks!

Brilliant film. I'm eagerly awaiting the follow-up: "Monopoly - the battle for the economy starts in the streets", with Neeson again as the lead's love interest's father. Liam Neeson has signed-up to a three film deal, but the third title hasn't been announced yet. Rumor has it, it's going to be a who-dunnit based om Trivial Pursuit, with Harvey Keitel, Tim Roth, and Steve Buscemi reprising their roles as Mr. White, Mr. Orange and Mr. Pink. Liam looks to take over the role of Nice Guy Eddie, the lead's love interest's father, taking over from the lamented Chris Penn.
/sarcasm off. Sorry, couldn't resist. Found Battleship to be a deeply sad affair.
Cheers,
EJ
