Music Room
Happy Easter Everyone! I am looking to expand my classical cd collection. Does deutsche grammophon hold the best recordings? Can you recommend a better label? Should I just go for what I like and not care about the label? Soo many to choose from... I usually buy my cd´s from amazon. All the Best
Anybody know if this version released in 2010 by Jazz Wax Records on 180g vinyl is mono or stereo? I've a CBS release in "stereo" with musicians on either side of the room so I'm after a mono version with all the musicians in the middle.
Given that so many remastered albums are disappointing, is there a site or service that reviews or compiles lists reflecting the quality of a given remaster vs. the original release?
...who can help?
I have three copies of The Wall. A 2012 remaster, a1979/80 first pressing and a 140g remaster from about 10 years ago. I have rather stupidly mixed up the vinyl and sleeves for the first pressing and the 10 year old remaster and,...
We all remember where we were at key moments in history; Kennedy assassination, 9/11, first moon landing etc. But how many of you can remember where and when you bought some key music in your life? (not wishing to in any way trivialize the historic...

Dear Mates, What do you like most ?
Responses to another post on "the Naim sound" had me wondering which live or "concert" recorded songs I liked better than their studio counterparts. Yes, there can be much to like about the quality of studio recordings, but sometimes live has...
Got lucky today. Picked up 5 dire straits title for $5 each. All of them seem to be the Pre-Remaster versions.Playing the first one now, and it sounds a lot more like the vinyl version. I had recently picked up a new CD which was remastered, and it...

I'm reading John Fahey's book about the emergence and history of the Delta Blues (Charley Patton+) and I realise I don't have any Muddy Waters albums. Shame on me! Heard some early stuff today playing on a Dylan Theme Time Radio prog,...
An interesting article from the BBC. While it does make a good & valid point - does the growth of 'Bedroom Studios' allow more freedom for young / no budget / no contract music makers? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-17379538
Fred. The Naim DC1 cable works wonders on this album.

Arrived this week, it has exceeded all my expectations. Unbelievably good and unique recorded sound and of course almost all the playing is first class. The selections may seem strange to some but to those unfamiliar with Mercury their programming was...
My only realistic solution right now for storing LPs is on some existing bookshelves. They are about 4 feet wide. So, the LPs flop/fall to the side. I've tried various bookends, but none are sturdy enough. Ideally, I could get or make some...
