I picked up a CD in the local charity shop yesterday, the Jacques Loussier Trio playing music inspired by themes of Erik Satie. I had never heard of Loussier, but £2.25 for the local hospice later, I have made a great discovery. It's a terrific album....

With the development of Naim streaming products and the ability to play hi res downloads can anyone recommend some good examples. It seems to me that a hi res version of a poor master will not sound much, if any, better than a cd from a good quality...

Ok, I'll start. 'Hounds of Love'. A criminal offence by comparison to the rather fine original CD pressing. G

I think a few Naimees went to this gig last night, and what a performance. A long wait for kick-off, but quickly up to speed. Wilson is a genius, and I don't often use that word. Definitely my gig of the year so far, and can't see anything topping it....

31st October, Samhain, the Celtic feast that has since morphed into an American abomination, marks one of the two great doorways of the Celtic year, for the Celts divided the year into two seasons: the light and the dark, at Beltaine on May 1st and Samhain on November 1st. Samhain was the more important festival, marking the beginning of a whole new cycle, just as the Celtic day began at night. For it was understood that in dark silence comes whisperings of new beginnings, the stirring of...

I was not quite sure how to title this thread, but watching Steve Howe with Yes last night playing a Fender Stratocaster, I began to think of other predominantly Gibson players who let themselves loose on 'Strats' to great effect. Of course it is not...

Last night I was invitted to the Pete Townsend launch of the "Director's Cut" of Quadrophenia. The great man himself was there and was interviewed about the album - he talked about how it was one of the trilogy of great Who albums (Who's Next and Tommy the obvious others). Also talked about how it marked the beginning of the end for Keith Moon - he was beginning to drift away. It was the only Who album he produced and he was proud of it. Anyway, he sang a few toons, then Mr Daltrey came in...

I know I know I am coming to the party rather late but courtesy of Spotify and "what are you listening to right now?" I intend buying my own copy. Looking on Amazon there are various versions that range from £3.93 up to £40 odd pounds. I am not interested in vinyl or DVD but are there any significant differences in audio quality between the various versions? Decca and Rounder both issue versions. Why? Thanks for any insight into my confusion. Steve T

DVD-A Ripped 24bit 96Khz King Crimson: In the Court of the Crimson King Intro Did a search on Amazon yesterday to see what is still available by way of DVD-As, and got this for £8. As an investment it would appear that my limited DVD-A collection may be going up in value, perhaps it is the one place I can invest some money and not get ripped off! Arrived this morning, ripped with DVDA Extractor. Four sets of stereo 9624 files: 1. Original mix remastered in 2004. 2. 2009 remastered. 3. Bonus...

Ok, so the reworking of this track has been out for a while. What is the conclusion? I've just listened to the two versions via the nDAC. To me the original version of this song sounds easily better than the reworking. The Sonics don't work, the...
