This is growing on me now - I thought ho-hum at first, but some of the quieter more thoughtful songs are starting to get under the skin in the way that some of the more obvious ones on Seldom Seen Kid became the most skippable after a while. He has a...

I mean the one that left you amazed, mesmerized, blown away etc... and started you on an interest in the Classics. Mine was this.... I'd tried a few pieces previously to this but nothing really hit me, so as I like to persevere with things before I give up I bought a few more CD's which this performance was among. I played it one night not really thinking much about it and not reading the liner notes to understand the importance of the performance at the time, within the first movement I...

Have you heard this album? You haven't. Trust me. The 24Bit flac came down last night from HD Tracks and I haven't been able to stop listening to it.  The hairs on the back of the neck are getting...

I'm not sure this post is in the right place, but how do other forum memberscategorize &file their CD collection? I would guess at the moment that I have about 1,300 CD's. Since joining this forum my tastes for other music & genreshas grown. So the spectrum is quite diverse. I would list my music under the following categories (with a few examples) Folk/Country - Basia Bulat, Frazey Ford, William Fitzsimmons, Eilen Jewell, Steeldrivers, Iron &...

When I buy a new album not heard before, I will put it straight on the cd player or tt, listen to it once to get a feel for it and then leave it in its special place on the rack, I will not touch that cd again until the next...

Anyone else see Maverick Sabre on Jools Holland last night? I did not expect that!!! For anyone who doesn't know of him he's a 20 year old London Irish lad who looks a bit like the chav son of Al Murray. As he stepped up to the mic I thought...

I've just received and played the new Blackfield CD 'Welcome to my DNA'. I really like it. The recording quality (?) however is appalling. Very compressed, making it sound congested, rough, and lacking space. Back to a couple of old original CDs. Free...

Hi everybody For years I had totally neglected much of  20th century`s  classical music. I really liked and listened a lot to Stravinsky, Prokofiev and Richard Strauss but not much to other composers. Recently I...

If I am able to pay enough attention, and to become completely receptive, music is able to make my soul glow. Every love, and disaster, every nice breeze and sunny day, all the births and deaths, illness, memories, good food, sex, all of it focuses on...

Who saw Knopfler on the BEEB-4 last night OK OK,  some would rather die than listen to Dire Straits,  some may say he is not the worlds best guitarist,  but ......  Personally I do like most of the DS material,  but whatever...

Of the artists on show tonight I have albums by Arcade Fire and Mumford & Sons (who I have also seen live), but I was somewhat underwhelmed by most of what was on display. I like Adelle's voice, but was not impressed by the song she sang tonight. Any reaction from you guys, or are we all too old for this new stuff? Regards Nic

I know nothing about opera. But thanks to someone on this forum (thank you Edouard), I discovered a few weeks ago the immense talent of CECILIA BARTOLI. Is it humanly possible to sing better than her? What other ultimate artists have I been missing?
