"Ombra Mai Fu" Too great a find not to share. The orchestra is rather mangled in the 1915 aucoustic recording [presumably made in English Columbia's studio at Petty France], but the voice comes through with the expressive immediacy that seemingly no modern recording can match. Why should this be? Was the quality of singing so much finer then that some loss in the recording was of no significance, or was this actually a very true recording style [at least for the soloist singer] unrivalled by...

I need some CD recommendations for artists like Duke Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie and Count Basie. 2 to 4 CD sets with nice selections and the best remastering on the market (not too much filtering...) would be very desirable . I don't know these...

I made a blind leap of faith recently & purchased Symphony No 4 after seeing it posted on the forum. I must say I've enjoyed listening to it immensely & find his whole contemplative style & material "uplifting" (for want of a better word) Where to next? I've toyed with purchasing Te Deum or Alina . Anyone got any recommendations? Cheers Flettster
