Listening to several consecutive Ian Dury albums in the car today it struck me that he is best known for two songs which pale into insignificance in comparison to 90% of his output. "Sex and Drugs and Rock 'n' Roll" and "Hit Me with your...

Thanks Jamie for sending me in the direction of 'Admiral Fell Promises' which has been beguiling my wife and I all week.I now charge you (and others) with guiding me through Kozelek's extensive back catalogue. 'April' seems an obvious pick but what...

Anyone heard the new Tom Jones album Praise & Blame ?? I pre-ordered it because I was impressed with him on some recent TV stuff that he did with Clapton & another program with his own band. It arrived this morning. Forget the Caesar's Place knicker throwing screaming fans version of Tom Jones. This is a whole new man - blues, soul, jazz, emotion & a voice that makes your hair stand on end.
Art of Noise have a new 'Best of' double CD out (only £8 at Amazon). I've been meaning to get some of their stuff for a while. Am I best just going for this, the obvious choice, or is there something else you'd suggest?ThanksGavin

Did anyone see his live shows yet this summer and what do you think? Really like the new CD.
Dunno what to make of this; they play propr tunes, they can play their instruments and if somebody had told me the album had been made in 1974 I'd believe it. I can even hear TAPE HISS.What I find a tad annoying is the slightly dreary vocalist; a...

I saw this artist at GreenMan two years ago. She did a short vocal set with a lone acoustic guitarist. She was bluesy and ballsy and blew me away. She had a few demos on her myspace page for awhile which were great but nothing except the odd gig...
Mine was Blondie, January 1980. Debbie Harry was as drunk as a skunk. Still great though. Regards,Steve.
I'm having a bit of a Mozart marathon today ...Cecilia Bartoli .... mmmmmmmCurrently listening to an old Highlights CD of the Magic Flute (1965, Karl Bohm). Would be the whole opera, but my full versions are all on LP.What a sublime piece of music. I...

PHEW !!!!Just performed at the Proms by the Welsh Symphony Orchestra. What a work to play. Over 1 hour of sustained intricate playing from sotto Voce to full blaze again and again. Hardwork for the orchestra but amazingly unleavable once it starts as...
Just received the latest newsletter from RT's Beesweb site announcing a new band tour at the beginning of next year, starting off in my home town of Salford. Booked my ticket for near the front, so that once again I can marvel at the man and bore my...
All,Been thinking about this for a while. I have a 1997 Columbia disc which I have to say is not the best. Someone has told me to seek out the 1992 Sony pressing but this is impossible to get. What do you folks rate as the current best available CD...
About two years ago, I hung up my trumpet, because it had become a bother to maintain my skills, much less move ahead. I thought I would put all my musical efforts into hearing music.A price had been paid. Playing scales and arpeggios every day,...
Why does nearly every CD jewel case come pre-broken? After 30 years, we deserve better.I am glad I touch each case just twice; once to remove and rip the CD, and once to replace it and put it away in storage.
