Hi, I'm slowly but surely starting to listen to jazz these days.To give an idea of what I like so far, I've been playing it safe with almost exclusively late 50/60s recordings on Blue Note, Verve, and Columbia, mainly popular choices from the usual...

I finally came to terms with the age & condition of all my old Queen LP's. So I send a note to Santa & he kindly sent me the 2x disc Greatest Hits II. Normally I hate greatest hits, but this old release is well recommended by Queenites as the best of all the material in 1 package, it is all inclusive of Freddy unlike G.H.III which is post Freddy, so what the hell, I still keep the vinyl. Its a great pair of disc's - especially on the new CDX2 [Mucho ] But it does not have Bohemian Rhapsody -...

After the great input I got from my 'recommend me some moody blues' thread, I thought I'd start another with bands in familiar with but don't necessarily own many albums of.As a result of this, I'll be taking my 60 year old father to a Moodies gig in...

I find for orchestral music right now, only Stravinsky's orchestra will do. His adaptation of the narrative form of ballet is fresh and inviting, a new sound that liberates the full potential of the orchestra for color, all done with an unerring sense...

James Blunt - Back to BedlamDido's No Angel was second and Amy Winehouses's Back to Black was third. I have none of these records and don't suppose I ever will, which is yet further evidence of how far out of touch I am with the current scene. At...

At the O2, that is.Even for a seasoned Macca-watcher such as myself, it was often baffling.I mean, he did "Wonderful Xmas Time", a horrible clapalong "Obla Do Obla Da" AND "Mull Of Kintyre" (complete with full pipe band). But he followed the latter...

In my LP days, I bought a lot of music so we would have a complete catalog of things. I would go out and find a copy of something, because it came up in something I was reading. Here comes Weill and Brecht. They were socially conscience German liberals...

Doesn't have to be released this year - just one you loved playing and would recommend to all and sundry. This one I appreciated for its great momentum, and multi-layered percussion.
