I have just ordered my 6th CD recording of Mozart's 40th symphony: Mariner, Klemperer, Bohm, Mackeras, Bernstein, and now Harnoncourt. I play different ones depending on how I want to listen to it played and the Mackeras is good in the car [not subtle]. The Bohm is the one I most often listen to. I know this is not a big number for some and wondered what pieces of music other people have multiples of and why? atb SJ

Recently I have been enjoying lots of lovely vinyl from car boot's and I have gotten to thinking about bands that, despite their early brillance, have gone on to be a watchword for middle of the road dross and I'm trying to determine the rubicon, the...

I don't know if this is regional or world-wide, but it has definitely changed the way wind players sound around these parts. When I was a trumpet student, both here and in NYC, the idea of how to articulate was to use a uniform tongue stroke, and to...

Ian Hobson’s cycle was never high on my list of cycles to hear. Indeed, I’d largely forgotten about it until I picked up a disc of Michel Block playing some Ravel and Falla works with Mr Hobson conducting. Alas, that disc for the Zephyr...

Renown blues artist Koko Taylor passed away yesterday in Chicago at age 80. She was one of the pioneers and always put on a terrific show.

Hello all,Just got my tickets for Ry Cooder and Nick Lowe at the Sage Gateshead in July, and I can't wait. I've always been a huge fan of Ry Cooder, but I know nothing of Nick Lowe apart from his production work with Elvis Costello. I'd like to try...

Been listening to the new disc by the Emerson Quartet. When I read that they recorded Janacek’s quartets, I knew I had to have it, but I also wondered if I’d like them more than established favorites. As expected, the Emerson play...
