The legendary Bill Kirchen (lead guitar/trombone/vocals and founder member of Commander Cody and the Lost Planet Airmen) is touring the UK this month. He's playing mostly very small venues such as pubs - eg. Golden Lion in Bristol and ticket prices are around £15. Tour dates and ticket links are on his web site (Google his name) - lots of dates all over the country. Wowza!

Having read with interest the "best concert" thread, it made me think of a few favourite bands I never saw. Who do you really wish you'd seen? Two of mine were: Talk Talk and, City Boy. Both were absolute firm favourites of mine at the time (and still) but I never had the opportunity to see them.

Legendary blues harp player passed away yesterday at age 81. From Muddy Waters to John Lee Hooker he was part of some of the greatest bands ever assembled. RIP.

New song, really nice work, I think. It's not so well-known that Cross is a great guitarist. _____________________________________________________ Tags: ringtones , download popular ringtones

I bought London Grammar's album If You Wait in vinyl recently. Interestingly it's recorded in 45rpm rather than the standard 33 1/3rpm. It therefore comes as a double album. I was struck by the quality of the recording which I understand to be enhanced by pressing the record at 45. Has anyone experience of other albums that take this approach? I believe it's relatively rare given the additional production costs for the record company... Kind regards Dave

There is some discount (15%) using code:HDMÄRZ10DE on selected albums in the section "Neu Hinzugekommen!" - in my opinion reasonable prices ! Valid unit 13-03-2017!

So I've heard them for years on what was the john peel radio show on BBC radio 1, back in the day. And for sure I have seen them live at some point. Although I don't have any albums.. Can any one recommend a good album that'll get me in a good place as far as " The Fall" are concerned. Is there a BEST one Ah ?

Surprised no one's mentioned this - a vinyl plus magazine partwork sort of affair, with the first edition, Abbey Road, currently available for a tenner. 20-odd issues to follow at higher prices. Many here who'd care will doubtless already have what they want/need, but a pretty good offer for others, like me. As I understand it, they're (really quite good) repressings of the stereo remasters from not that long ago. Which means I'm only interested in one or two, as I prefer the monos where...

We caught a TOTP from 1983 last night and to my surprise I really enjoyed The Style Council's performance of Speak Lika a Child. So I will be searching for a cd album of theirs with that track on in the local HMV in the morning. Ray

No discussion so far about the restored 24-track tapes of four Marley concerts in the 70s? I hope, they contain new stuff indeed and are really masters, not only backups. more about: https://www.theguardian.com/music/2017/feb/05/spine-tingling-lost-bob-marley-tapes-restored-after-40-years-in-a-cellar

Just watched this on iPlayer and am surprised there is no thread on here about it. Is it a reflection on a moribund Music Room or a dearth of Tom Waits fans? He's someone I have quite a few albums of but have never really assimilated any bar closing time which is probably the least representative. Giving Swordfishtrombones a spin at the moment, not being a cool inky reader has advantages in the albums I've yet to discover!

As a generalization I find lighter weight LPs play better on my deck. Heavyweight vinyl is nothing but marketing hype to me.

A handful of artists who are considered to have "enriched the world's culture" with their songwriting and music are selected for induction every year. Joining the hall of fame is a huge deal - previous inductees include Marvin Gaye, Bob Dylan, Dolly Parton, Bruce Springsteen and Michael Jackson. But no rapper has ever made the cut before. Jay-Z will be inducted as part of the hall's class of 2017 alongside Max Martin, who has written songs for Taylor Swift, Katy Perry and Ariana Grande.

I fear it's again going to be such a year, but now not for pop music but for jazz. One of the key guys on guitar just passed away too young (73)

Is anyone else having difficulties getting to this site? I have tried several times during the last week without success. Have they ceased trading? Anyone know please?
Bert SchurinkPosted: 12 February 2017Last Updated: 19 February 2017
I hope this is not becoming a year like last. Another great artist dying. I would have seen him in concert at a jazz open air around the corner in July.......sad

Well perhaps I'm not quite in their category yet but the ability in Roon 1.3 to do some parametric equalisation in the digital domain is giving me the ability to rescue masterings that particularly sound too hot or bright. Albums that stripped enamel from my teeth are now listenable again. This album on CD used to give me a headache, now I'm 21 again! These are very exciting times in digital replay.

Listening to Radio 3's Record Review yesterday, I was surprised to hear them discussing the (?new) release of Simon Rattle's Brahms cycle with the BPO, recorded in 2014 Direct to Disk: https://www.berliner-philharmoniker-recordings.com/rattle-brahms-vinyl.html I'd heard of D2D recordings done in the 1970s by Sheffield Labs, but didn't think even the recent vinyl revival would result in this particular technique being revived, especially in this context since classical buffs tend not to be...
