72. Well this year's going well isn't it. Loved Man, loved his solo albums, loved his wonderfully funny and well-written books (you don't have to be a Man fan to find Winos Rhinos and Lunatics hilarious). Once had to restrain the Missus from rushing the stage to get at him (didn't fancy him myself, but hey).

I have a lot of fun memories of Asia and still every now and then love to play something. Quite a number of good albums have been produced by the guys......sad

I am curious about the 'affair' between musical and technological attraction that acted on the moment of our first purchase. Was it motivated by the wish for a new sonic experience? By the obstinate love for a certain composition? Was it pop, jazz, classical? Was it oriented by magazines? Was it a bet? In my case, the very first CD I bought was Supertramp's Breakfast in America . I didn't even had a CD player yet. It must have been somewhere in 1986, and I was aching to have one of those new...

I like this quote from Julian Vereker, the founder of Naim Records; “...leave in mistakes, provided the intention is good... I want the people, the human beings. I want the smell of cigarette smoke in the atmosphere and I want the feel of hot bodies. The last thing I want is a perfectly made-up corpse. It’s a different philosophy, and I know it sometimes frustrates reviewers.” “You can certainly call our catalog eclectic... I want variety in my life. I can’t listen to one type of music again...

Hello, I've been back into vinyl for nearly 2 years now, and I had about half a dozen records from my wife's youth that I had ignored. Reasons for ignoring include the horrible covers (falling apart), lack of interest, or level of frustration with the overplaying of said album/songs. Whatever the reason they were overlooking, so I decided to clean them up, provide them with inner and outer liners and spin them. Let me tell you up front that when I go through old records and clean them up and...

David Bowie: The Last Five Years. Saturday 7th Jan on BBC2 at 21.00. Just a quick heads up for the forum David Bowie fans. I heard this programme previewed on BBC Radio4 Front Row last night. As a Bowie fan, it really piqued my interest as it concentrates on Black Star & The Next Day albums, which I personally think are amongst his strongest. If anything like the original David Bowie: Five Years documentary, it could provide a fascinating insight into the creative process behind those...

The great drummer of Can has just died, aged 78, of pneumonia. Very, very sad news. Alongside Bonham, he was perhaps the greatest drummer who has ever lived, and certainly the most influential, alongside Bonzo and Gene Krupa. http://pitchfork.com/news/7106...iebezeit-dead-at-78/

My other half heard the singer on the radio for the first time recently and was very impressed. Enough to actually mention it, which for her is something. However, it's her birthday (wife, not kd laing as far as I know) and I thought I would get her a CD to go with Cohen's You Want It Darker. But I don't know laing's output. Rather than take a stab in the dark I wonder if anyone can recommend a good starter. Jean's tastes are wideish, favouring The Shires, Adele, Judas Priest, Bowie and...

Streaming and TIdal has allowed us to discover more new music and for that we should be grateful. Yet I'm sat here, half cut, listening to a playlist I've created that copies Now That's What I Call Music 2 on a stereo that cost more than a small car. Is this a waste of the stereo? Right now I don't care, I'm loving it. I'm hearing more in the Thompson Twins than I can remember from the tapes I saved my pocket money for.

I don't have any version of dsotm - all I heard was a cassette tape back in the early '80s. Given I don't wish to source a vintage pressing would the reissue be worth considering ? The jacket claims analogue master tapes as a source and Grundman as an engineer. I guess some digital work went on at some point to compensate for tape wear - so should I just go for a CD? I' m looking for something that's hi fidelity not just 'faux-vinyl'.

Hi, Does anyone know of a good source to purchase this 2 CD set at a reasonable price please? I am in the UK and this item seems hard to obtain. I'd settle for a high res download but none of the normal providers have this, only itunes. Thanks

So U2 have decided in their wisdom to celebrate 30 years since march 1987 the Joshua Tree release by running a tour in the summer. playing the album from start to finish. A few bands have done something similar in the past, mostly those bands that only marginally had success or those who had broken up and reformed several years / decades later and probably broke. seems mixed reactions so far, many putting out the point that the band can only be creative for so long until it's realised the...

Peter Sarstedt who wrote and performed 'Where Do Yo Go To (My Lovely)' passed away a few days ago. Although really a one hit wonder the 1969 song sounds absolutely stunning on a Naim system.

Finally found time to listen to Xmas pressie of the the Rolling Stones Blue & Lonesome on Vinyl. wow - it is so bluesy I'm going to have to file it under blues/jazz rather than rock where I have Sticky fingers ... ... you can tell from having a whoel 2 Stones albums that, although I kinda like them, they arenot one of my goto bands so I'm no expert. Jagger is probably the only "oldie" I've heard recently whose voice doesn't sound his age, seems very like his younger days and he really...

A new year, and have been to my first concert of 2016, so thought I should start a new thread. Peter Stark conducting the RCM Philharmonic Orchestra playing Elgar's Enigma Variations at the Royal College of Music in South Kensington. You don't often get the opportunity to hear The Engima Variations played live and I'm pleased to say that for the most part the RCM Phil played well.  They pretty much nailed the centre piece of Nimrod, although in other parts the timing was a little off...
