Still incredibly relevant Sandy Denny died 30 years ago on Monday. Her influence is evident in many of our current crop of wonderful female Folk artists from Martha Tilston, Kate Rusby, Karine Polwart, Bella Hardy to Rachel Unthank and many others. I...

I'd been looking forward to getting the new CC CD from the States as I really like 'August and Everything After' which sounds great. The recording of 'SNASM' is utter shite. Someone deserves to be shot for it. Are these people deaf, or more likely,...

[Please don't tell me to check the terminals since getting at the back of my components is quite difficult -- I may have the CD output reversed and also I may have the speakers reversed ... or not ... maybe they cancel]. What I want is suggestions that either a) Tell me to download a file that tells me which is which or b)...

Rarely heard these days, 'Dogs' was a single from 1968 - a sort of link between their mid sixties singles and the rock opera Tommy. Slightly confusing because another track 'Dogs (Part Two)' was the b-side of 'Pinball Wizard' (1969) and this latter is...

Absolutely spellbound by 'Moi et mon camion' - apart from the suspect title, this is the best CD I've bought so far this year. Took a punt after a 5* recommendation from Sunday Times (not always reliable). Brilliant. I suppose I'll have to search out...

When it comes to the Diabellis, I often prefer a more interventionist approach. I can’t quite explain why, but when a pianist obviously tinkers around with the tempi (especially) and dynamics (less so), I often enjoy the results, though not...

I'd suggest picking them up from the Connoisseur Society directly. The two-disc sets are $13.98 each, and shipping in the US is free, and overseas it's cheap. That makes the cycle $56. http://www.connoisseursociety.com/ has the info. And some more...

Piotr Anderszewski's latest: the Op 126 Bagatelles and C Major Concerto. It snuck up on me - I had no idea it was coming. Four listens in relatively rapid succession convinces me of its superior quality, with some caveats. First of all, Anderszewski...

A couple years ago I picked up the first volume of Kun-Woo Paik’s Beethoven sonata cycle, comprising sonatas from Op 31/1 through 81a. The notes indicated that the rest of the cycle would be recorded later in 2006 and 2007. Cool, I thought,...
