Music Room
Just dug out a CD of my dad's dating back to 1960's/70's by UK band The Pedlers titled "Three in a Cell" and a cracker it is. Were they popular during this period? Harry
Can anyone please tell me what music genre I am listening to. I love Vangelis and his compositions of Blade Runner. I also like Mike Oldfield's rendition of The Songs of Distant Earth. I just love that dreamy surreal sound. I would also be obliged if you could point me in the direction of other such musical compositions by artists I am not aware of.
Just seen this on BBC4 - if you like their stuff from this era (I do - a lot) you should enjoy this. It's repeated later tonight and I think again on Sunday. Presumably the material is from the mega box set about to be released. Fabulous visual and sound quality, and good mix of psychedelia with a couple of attempts at pop hits.
Sad to see that Pete Burns has passed away after a huge heart attack. Far too young.
Steve Howe Friday 7 October | 8pm (doors open 7.15pm) A unique opportunity to hear the internationally acclaimed guitarist Steve Howe, who played an integral role in shaping the sound of Yes and Asia, two of the world's most beloved and successful progressive rock bands. The gifted guitarist has also enjoyed a long and prolific career as a solo artist with more than a dozen studio albums to his credit. Steve will be featuring music from his more recent addition to his amazing back catalogue,...
There's a free photo exhibition of my images of the Smiths and other iconic musicians in Maidenhead to which all are welcome! Tuesday 25 October - 2016 Sat 12 November https://norden.farm/events/stephen-wright-the-smiths-and-friends A returning exhibition at Norden Farm will bring together the work of Caversham based photographer, Stephen Wright – famed for capturing ‘One of the most famous photos in pop’ (Tim Jonze, The Guardian). His shot of The Smiths outside the Salford Lads Club - for...
Who needs new music when you have old stuff you have forgotten ! I was going through my vinyl wondering what to play and passed over a box that seperates my blues/jazz from acoustic/folk ... ... hey wait a minute, I never play that box ... How many times do we always skip over the same album or bits of our collection, almost without thinking. Well this was a boxed set of 4 vinyl albums from 1973 - Genesis - the beginning of Rock, Vol 2 - from Memphis to Chicago ... I've only just finished...
Thank you to my new friend, Fred B. I have just discovered a new (to me) web site selling download files. I am knocked out by the eponymous album by Sera una Noche. For me, this music is stunningly and uniquely beautiful, beautifully performed and beautifully recorded. This album is available in 16/44 and hires. A few are in native DVD. The catalogue is modest, and when you place an order, you wait patiently (maybe 1/2 hour in my case), but I think worthy of our support. Charlie
Me, I've realised I tend to do the latter. Not sure this is the correct answer though. Not sure when this trend started but I am prepared to admit I am doing it.
Rumours abound that Sony will release a 22+ CD box set of the Bob Dylan "World Tour 1966" before year end! This will then secure the copyright of these performances and make Sony a lot of money...I have my credit card ready. Chris
In case you have missed it http://www.nytimes.com/2016/10/14/arts/music/bob-dylan-nobel-prize-literature.html?_r=0
I'm not sure if forum members are aware of this site (as I haven't seen it mentioned) but its a useful site for really detailed information on up coming releases ( new and old re issues ) - especially the super deluxe editions, hence the name http://www.superdeluxeedition.com/ What is also interesting is, similar to CamelCamelCamel the Amazon tracking, they list many Amazon site costs, so you can do a direct compare on currently the cheapest site to purchase from - shipping and any customs...
I just spotted this new release on Amazon due on November 11 https://www.amazon.co.uk/Early-Years-1965-72-Pink-Floyd/dp/B01J20B7IW/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1475338513&sr=1-1&keywords=pink+floyd+the+early+years+1965-1972+box+set It includes lots of demo versions and soundtrack versions but it' not really clear whether is a totally official release. Regards Roberto
Guys, I'm not the greatest Zimmer aficionado but love this record. Can anybody recommend a really good vinyl version. I've seen the 180gr MoFi version but didn't really want to take a £35 plunge if it wasn't up st scratch. Comments welcome. Regards, Lindsay
...narrated by Don't Letts. Looks a fascinating insight into the origins, and hopefully we will get some Slade thrown in there. Only down side will be where the skinhead movement gets hijacked by the far right, but hopefully this won't be the main focus.
I notice that, for now, you can get Phil Collins The Singles (Expanded) for free from the UK HD Tracks site. It's in CD quality, not HD, but there's 45 of Phil's best loved tracks. I'm guessing that when the sun comes up accross the pond, this offer will be withdrawn pretty sharpish (as will maybe someone's employment), so don't tell anyone. Anon.
I know this may be a little sacrlegious to some but if anyone has their system as the primary sound output from their TV, and especially if they like JT's music, they owe it to themselves to give this a watch on netflix. Justin Timberlake and the Tenessee Kids was released on Netflix yesterday. He is by no means my favourite music choice but by god he puts on a show. Netlix on the XBox one fed into my 50 inch panny plasma, with the optical output from the XBOne directly into the 272 with all...
Hi to all! I just like to know what do you think it is the best recorded/mixed/mastered album in terms of definition and clarity? Do you use it for your testing porpuses? Thanks for your oppinions :-)
I have just watched classic albums recorded on Sky Arts. The feature was DSOTM. I have never owned this and now wonder, is there any received wisdom on which vinyl version, release, pressing is the best for SQ? Thanks Dave
With Thriller, Rock WIth You, Off The Wall, Give me the Night and Boogie Nights to his name he wrote many of the songs of my youth.
It seems that Steve's back story is not quite what we've been led to believe..................don't really matter. Blatantly cut and pasted from another website. https://www.theguardian.com/music/musicblog/2016/sep/29/seasick-steve-session-musician-ramblin-man-book Oh well.
Thanks to King Size, I have discovered Everything But The Girl. Great tunes especially the more laid back ones. Some of my favourite songs include Cross My Heart, Mirrorball, Alfie, Letting Love Go just to name a few. Other catchy tunes that I enjoy include Take Me, No Difference, Before Today(Chicane remix) and Downhill Racer. Any recommendation on artists or music with similar style would be most appreciated.
Another great musician passed away....
A beautiful guitar and harmony based light pop band. My son's the lead guitar and they're full of catchy Beach Boys type harmonies. http://www.ohmyrockness.com/bands/the-pooches#! http://www.ohmyrockness.com/bands/the-pooches#!
What to listen to, to start with? Preferably 24 bit.
