Music Room
i have been buying these as they have been released and look forward three more later this week. The sticky label states remastered from the original analogue master tapes. What does this mean? Are they full analogue or is there a digital master in the process somewhere?
Any opinions about this set out there. I see quite mixed reviews of his work so I am not sure
September 24, 1991. I'm wondering what the legacy of Nevermind means to others here, positive or negative. I was originally unimpressed by Nirvana's music, finding their sound dark and pessimistic. Over time I've had a complete turnaround and see Nevermind as one of a handful of albums that remarkably changed the landscape of popular music; releasing the angst of a lost generation, establishing the credibility of grunge/alternative, and giving rise to independent record labels. Underground...
Iron Maiden tickets have been on pre sale for the last couple of days for their May tour. They are being supported by Shinedown who are really good live anyway, and, by happy coincidence they are playing Liverpool as well as Manchester so I will be there. Looking forward to it as I have yet to watch a gig at the Echo Arena
Details are on the Superdeluxedition website and it's available to preorder on Amazon. I am vey happy about this :) Keith
Having bought the original vinyl/cassette/RCA CD/Remastered Ryko CD/Special Edition Deluxe CD/EMI remastered CD of all these albums, it seemed a bit churlish not to shell out another £100 on this box set. So glad I did as these are (to my ears) the best sounding versions I've heard. Great to hear the Gouster album including the alternative versions of some of the Young Americans tracks. I really like the Harry Maslin 2010 remix of Station to Station (I seem to be the only one that does!) and...
I'm a bona fide Wilco fan who'd probably buy an album of them tuning up in the bath but the new ' Shmilco' is a great addition to their catalogue. Compared to the raucous 'Star Wars' it is largely acoustic, folky and subtle and on first listen deceptively simple but it has a depth revealed over repeat listens. Slightly wistful and nostalgic at times, but not taking itself too seriously. Excellent stuff. http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/22355-schmilco/ Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds 'Skeleton...
Hi, Just though I would share this experience. This morning my Wife was looking for some Andre Rieu tickets for December at the Wembly SSE Arena. Viagogo came up on a search so She started the booking process. Tickets for section C3 were £133 each, seemed a bit steep but ok, go for it. Then came the payment page and OMG where did those extra charges come from? We are now up to a total of £459!! And for this we only know that we will get seats in that section. I go the the Wembly website...
i know that this has been well covered before, but after discovering the loudness wars database I have been checking out the difference in back to back comparisons. It has been very revealing. I got suckered into buying many of my fav albums as remastered versions. Fair to say, nearly every remastered copy has been ditched because the originals from years ago are so much better. Once you realise that remastering is a gimmick for the iPod generation, in most cases, then it is hard to live...
I have dug out this old Scarlet CD album and played it on the system recently. It has been quite a while since I listened to this album but man the recording quality of the CD is superb. Great tunes as well played through my newly acquired gear (NAC 282, Hicap DR, NAP 250 DR through a Chord QBD 76). The music was previously played on a NAC 202, NAP 200 and PSU from Israel. Does anyone have this album? It's a pity the group didn't last long. One of the members left during the early stages...
After selling off my CD's and running my music as FLAC via a NAS I had lost part of my the relationship with my music. To remedy this I have started collecting vinyl versions of my music, some which I never actually had on CD but had as original records from my youth, Im 49. I now have a growing collecting that sit unplayed as...I have no record player.. I now have that connection again and ill be honest I quite like looking up the old Vinyl and collecting it despite not playing any.
I had the pleasure of watching Gary Numan live tonight in Olympia in Liverpool. Amazed by how rocky and good he and his band where, much more than I expected and Are Friends Electric was one of the best songs I have ever heard live. A few months ago I saw Adam Ant live in Manchester and he was also brilliant and very rocky too. Just strikes me that some of these acts, who in their day where probably not well rated or respected, are so good live now that they stand out compared to what is...
Have you heard music recorded in Q sound? What's your view? (I believe Amused to Death is in this recording.)
Hello folks I am currently using a 1k resistance plug and a 4.7 nf campatance plug Finding there's to much lower end .I must add that the superline is still breaking in . Specs for kontrapunkt b are as follows Internal impedance, DC resistance - 5 Ohm Recommended load impedance - 5-200 Ohm Output voltage at 1000 Hz, 5cm/sec. - 0,47 mV Also it was suggested that I maybe better off just powering phono stage with my power auxiliary out put of my 52 preamp as opposed to powering it with my...
Dear Forum I hope that this isn't a silly question, but how many people use the Marketplace in Discogs to buy second hand vinyl, and how reliable are the descriptions re condition? There seem to be a lot of really good condition LPs there for mostly quite reasonable prices, so I thought I'd ask before giving it a try. Thanks Nigel
More sad news of the passing of Prince Buster, a true originator of reggae, rocksteady and ska, and an inspiration for many of the TwoTone bands of the 80's. One Step Beyond. RIP.
interesting or NOT so correct article, love my vinyl and my NDX - I am sure I am not alone I like the quality of the record just as much as it being played on my system YouGov........i think you must of asked the wrong focus group in summary Market research company YouGov has released the results of a new study into the demographics of vinyl buyers in 2016, and the results are almost hilariously predictable. The recent surge of interest in vinyl has led to supermarkets and chains stocking...
I have received one of the many mails from hdtracks with discounts on selected titles. One of them is Queen a night at the opera 2011 remaster and 24 bit. I am sure the original cd version could be better, but you never no with remasters, some of them are worse than the original. Claus
Another stunner from Neil Hannon, I think. Released today. Found it in 24 bit on Qobuz. Only drawback is Qobuz download procedure, which to me is bizarre. 7 Digital also has the album, but only 16 bit. I don't know why they wouldn't offer 24 bit too - surely it doesn't cost them to offer it?
With an equipment upgrade I am revisiting my music collection and played again my Michael Marra collection - always one of my favourites but I'd forgotten how good he really was. This singer/songwriter is worthy of much wider appreciation than currently. The late Michael Marra (1952-2012) was a celebrated tunesmith and performer from Dundee, Scotland. He was widely acclaimed in music circles but not in any great meaningfully commercial way. If you can get hold of any of his albums then I...
Tonight, I was listening, inter alia, to Dusty Springfield's Windmills of Your Mind. This track was recorded in 1969 and I have it in 16 bit 44KHZ. It sounds absolutely stunning on my system (Superuniti and Dali Rubicon 6). More modern stuff in higher resolution pales by comparison (OK a bit of hyperbole here). It occurs to me to wonder, what other simply stunning tracks are there out there? This is obviously a very personal choice but I'd be most interested to know what others have found to...
I have just read this interview and decided to post a link here. A great man and musician. My sincere apologies to Richard if it breaks any rules. https://www.allaboutjazz.com/ron-carter-always-at-the-center-of-the-action-ron-carter-by-victor-l-schermer.php?width=768
So here it is. The Early Years box set - 27 discs in all, 12 hours of audio, 14 of video, five 7" singles, memorabilia etc. Tons of unreleased stuff. Expensive, but I've ordered it. Pink Floyd will release The Early Years 1965-1972 on Friday 11th November 2016. A comprehensive 27-disc boxed set, it pulls together material from the Pink Floyd archive, as well as licensed Radio and TV recordings, to comprise a deluxe package that includes seven individual book-style volumes, (six of which are...
Can I suggest checking out this band? I first saw them supporting Bellowhead a couple of years ago and bought their 3rd album, on vinyl, at the gig, then the first two on CD soon after but probably best to start with their recent issue, Preternatural. I'm going to discribe their music as steamprog, possibly not a band for the urban realists though.
Just listened to a rendition of Louis Glass's String Quartet #1 on Audiophile Classical (iradio) and enjoyed it enough to want to see if I can get hold of the recording. But I can't seem to find it. It was performed by the Lindsay String Quartet, but I cant find it in any of the online lists of their recordings. It's not on eclassical or Qobuz, and the only similar thing I can see is a recording of his SQ 3 & 4 by a different quartet. I don't really know the first thing about this kind...
