A few years ago my mate told me how he had embarked on a mission to play his entire record collection through from one end to the other and had re-discovered some old gems he had completely forgotten about. Now, my time's too precious to me to embark...

Did anyone hear The Proclaimers on Chris Moyles Radio 1 breakfast show a couple of days ago? They played 2 tunes live. I thought they sounded great. They can certainly sing Graham.

There’s loads of mix and compilation CD’s around at the moment. Most of them are rubbish. I often find that I have a particular piece of dance music on 12 inch single but I want it on a CD so I get a mix CD with it on, and they’ve...

I'll havre to own up that I've been playing his stuff on my ipod the past couple of days, and he is really really good. Okay, he's not original, but who cares when he can knock out good ole electric blues guitar like this. I take it all back. I'm...

I've bought a significant number of CDs over the last year or so that are basically too badly recorded to listen to on my Hi-Fi (too harsh, bright or strangely dynamically compressed). I understand the current move towards recording/remastering at...

Dear Friends, Does anyone know where Japanese EMI Toshiba CDs may be bought in UK? On-line, anywhere in the world, will do now that I finally have a debit card. I want old Helmut Walcha's EMI integral [13 CDs] of the Bach Harpsichord music, which is only issued in Japan, except for five discs from Pathe Marconi [EMI France] containing the Well temperered Clvier and Goldbergs. The trouble is that the French discs are cheap and the Japanese ones are issued at premium price in one big album!

[Here's a link to volume 1] It’s been just over a year since Volume 1. Harmonia Mundi has followed up Paul Lewis’ good though hardly ground-breaking cycle opener with a new three-disc set filled with ten sonatas from all three of Beethoven’s compositional periods. It was only right and proper that I should listen to it. I’ll just jump right in: The set opens with one of the most disappointing recordings of the Pathetique I’ve heard. The chord that opens the...
