Anyone else discovered this guy?I saw him recently on the Late Review on BBC2, remembered enough to find details on the BBC website, ordered the album ("The Magic Position") and have been playing it near-continuously ever since. The title track itself...
Friday 23rd March 2007, 20:30 to 21:00 The BBC's legendary pop performance show from 1964 with an R&B bent featuring John Lee Hooker and the Groundhogs as well as Tom Jones and The Kinks. I think this is a series rather than a one-off more news if and when. Steve
Picked up the new one today and am currently sitting at work with my headphones on trying hard not to start dancing on my desk. Some fantastic rythmic ideas in a melting pot sound which comes across like the bastard offspring off Talking Heads, Human...
http://cdbaby.com/cd/bromberg. I give it four out of five stars. His voice wobbles when its out of synch with his breath and I would have prefered he do some thing in 6/8. "Somebody to Love" or a gospel song for example. C'es la vie.
'Into The Blues' sounds very promising. It appears to be on '429 Records' and is released in the UK first, on 9th April.Anyone know where it was recorded?John.

Hi allJust need a little advice on the best performance of this score (preferably available on Vinyl). This will be my first foray into Classical Music and this piece seems to be a good place to start. Thanks Dean.
I always liked Lucinda's Car wheels on a Gravel Road, but her new one, West, is simply superb. She has a great voice and (like Natalie Merchant) is a lady who isn't overawed by getting out in front of a really muscular backing band. Oh, to hear her...
Anyone else heard of this geyser from Portland, Oregon?A friend introduced me to his 1996 album 'I See Trouble' yesterday, and my copy is on order.Web-site here.John.
What was all that about? She only did one song in a quite disinterested manner, it was obvious that she performed more that one song but they only showed 'A few small repairs'. I had really looked forward to this after I saw her live last year, she is...
Any word on when (if) Heartplay is going to be released on vinyl? I thought it was slated for January 2007. Also, any more vinyl releases in the works?
Too good to lose in the 'new CD thread' Wincing The Night Away' really is a blast. Thoroughly modern indie pop (perhaps with a vague Smiths feel) it really is one to buy if you want something enjoyably uncomplicated and entertaining. The sign of a...
Hi all, Adam M (yes its your fault) mentioned The Smiths on a thread in Hifi Corner, and this got me thinking. I'm a huge fan and was wondering what the fav track was and why? as this seems to cause a bit of a stir with me and my friends when we...
I know they're one of the most influential British bands of all time.I know they're from the North, and so am I.I know they sing songs of gritty, unusual, affecting realism.I know they've impacted the lives of many, and in positive ways.I know that...

For no particular reason (okay, it was on “clearance” at Arkiv), I picked up the above disc. What a delightful collection! The disc has music written between 1935 and 1986, including Pieces Number 1 and Number 2 for small orchestra, the...

'Live from Abbey Road'.John.
I'm on the look out for some more music, so if you could help me out with an idea, I'd appreciate it.My idea is this. I'll post an album that I like, and my reasoning. You post an album that you think I might like, based on the first one, and ideally...
I have my eye on his 1951 Columbia recording. Anyone heard it? Thanks.
Bought this two CD set at the Music Bar at Louis Boston. Sounds great and my wife loves it. I can't tell if it is actually HiFi or phasey sounding MP3. For sure it ain't Alison Kraus audiophile quality, but it sounds better than you might imagine...
