Country and Western is a musical form that I more commonly respect (Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn etc) than love. There are more recent artists such as Lucinda Williams or Lindi Ortega that have operated at the fringes of the mainstream that I really do enjoy, but now ( this week to be precise) sees the release of a debut album from an artist new to me, Margo Price, that sees what might be termed "traditional" C&W, given a very enjoyable rehash. The album has the seemingly...

I played 'cello as a 'kid' for many years, and enjoy hearing the instrument a lot. I have the iconic Du Pre / Barbirolli Elgar concerto, and Rostropovich / Karajan Boccherini. And a few other albums . . . If any of you love cello music I'd love a few recommendations of music that I can actually find and purchase today :) Casals on 45's probably aren't happening!

Would anyone like to recommend a 24 bit recording of (preferably the complete) Beethoven string quartets?

For the last few months all I've done is buy records, clean them and listen. I'm nearing 500 records in under a year already! Today I bought a Magavox record player and media center from 1967 from the original owner, along with two boxes of vinyl totaling 80 records for $98. The record play has 4 speeds: 78 33 45 16 and it still works! Never heard of 16 speed before. Anyway this is the slim, short, long media center I've been looking for to sit between my Credo. It's snug against the wall,...

On purchasing my latest addition to my audio system, a Naim CD5XS, I was given as a freebie a CD compilation disc. I have not listened to everything on the disc. Except a track called Crying On Land by a group called Pylo. Fabulous stuff. Straight to Amazon and bought their CD. A combination of Coldplay, Pink Floyd surreal Songs of Distant Earth and Blade Runner type of ambiance. Thank You Naim.

We were fortunate to have seen him perform at the Montreal Jazz festival a few years ago. He died yesterday at 57. Grave perdita

Legendary C&W star Merle Haggard passed away today at age 79 from complications from pneumonia. He was truly one of a kind. RIP.

I was able to see Bruce Springsteen and the E Street band last night and was blown away! Bruce rocks like someone half his age and the band was incredible. Despite being my seventh Springsteen show he never ceases to amaze. Sound was a bit murky early on but improved during the 3 hour show. Fans from 5 to 75 filled the place and many stood thru the entire concert. A little more crowd participation than necessary on a few vocals but the Boss had everyone engaged, even crowd surfing at one...

At Qobuz they offer now at quite attractive prices 20 remasters in high res. So my question is anybody having an opinion about the fact if it's worthwhile or not, as in some cases the prices are as low as 3 euros - and the impression is given that the price will go up in the next days (pre-order advantage). I ask the question as I can't hear the albums yet.

I've had a few Tidal subscriptions and let them lapse, always preferring to buy and mostly preferring to listen to CDs. Roon's integration with Tidal has prompted me to take out another subscription with Tidal. So now I'm looking at the 2 roads diverging in the narrow wood and wondering which I'll choose. I'm wondering what those of you who kept up Tidal after the 3 month trial period are now doing. I suppose the question is of equal relevance to those of you using qobuz. Are you willing to...

40 years ago today on a flight from New York to Los Angeles at the tender age of 25 Paul Kossoff passed away. His playing even during the loudest of passages always had a feel that no other player could really achieve. http://youtu.be/eI1FT0a_bos

I may be preaching to the converted here but if that is the case then please bear with me. I was recently at the Acoustica Show in Chester listening to the Kudos Titans when a track that seemed to be called Beat Hotel was played which really impressed me. I subsequently googled the title and discovered it was from an album called Hotels and Dreamers by a guy called Allan Taylor who, probably to my shame, I had never heard of. Anyway, purely on the basis of this track, I decided to invest in...

Hi, Anybody know where I can find a decent quality recording of the above CD please. I have a 1984 (bloody hell is it that long ago!!) recording on Virgin but understand there are decent recordings to be had. Thanks for your help.

Ive recently been listening to a lot more radio on my 272 (as opposed to CD rips or vinyl). I know there are the obvious stations (the Scottish Jazz Chanel) but I wondered if other jazz fans out there had found any gems. I've been enjoying Audiophile Jazz, whilst it's broadcasting MP3/320kb/s I think it sounds pretty decent and plays some great trad jazz. Any tips greatly received.

Is there a thread for this already (Tony?)? At least I did not find it. This album was released already in April if I remember correctly. I bought it only recently though and have listened to it lot. "Sound & Color is not an electronic record. But it is strange and mystical and unexpected—more Houses of the Holy than "Holy Cow". It’s got past lives and future people, traces of Curtis Mayfield, Erykah Badu, MC5, the Strokes. There’s a song called "Shoegaze" that could find a second home...
